Tariq King isn't the only #thoughtleader roaming out virtual halls (though I know it can seem like it - he's just everywhere). It's always interesting, to me anyway, to discover disciplines outside of #testing and #quality that are for all intents and purposes testing and quality. #BusinessAnalysis seems to fit the bill. The Business develops hypotheses and executes as a part of business #development. Business Analysts are called upon to test those hypotheses, and ingest and digest outcome results, to help inform future iterations and roadmaps with actionable intelligence. Which is exactly what #QE and #QA does for #software development and #product. Chief Business Analyst and EPAM Systems colleague Jan Mazurek has spun up a series where he gathers various experts to explore topics around how to best work more effectively within the work. I don't like to get too in the weeds with our #IP and #technology in these forums. At this stage in our relationship, I know that you know that you're not interested in laundry lists of bullet points and features. I bring up our in-house expertise a lot. Yes, we’re skilled with available tools. Yes, if a needed tool doesn’t exist or we think we can do it ‘better’ we’ll engineer it (e.g. ReportPortal, EliteA, and DIAL). But at the end of the day, it’s the collective grey matter that, well, matters. Executing a plan is what brings things to life. But even before a plan is put to metaphorical paper, it’s about the ability to understand the existing challenges and ferret out their root causes. It’s about the ability to (to borrow from Bruce Lee) “be like water” and adapt and transform to needs, available resources, and constraints. It’s about working hard to be the smartest #tester in the room, so you can #elevate and #empower the #people who are putting their trust and critical parts of their business in your expert hands. So, something that's been on my mind that I'd love to toss at the Collective to see what thoughts and opinions are. Why aren't companies prouder of the investments and work they put into their #quality engineering, quality assurance, and #testing? "Quality" - as holistic and granular a concept as it can be - has always been, and continues to be, a significant competitive differentiator. Also living in the age of social media as we are, customer sentiment is a key - often the most important - influencer in driving new user adoption. And what drives positive customer sentiment more than anything else? Quality. But next to development roadmaps and capabilities, the most opaque black box seems to be the work done around Quality (with a capital 'Q'). We all know bugs happen. But for every bug that might make it through to production, there are 99 more that didn't. That's a big deal. Leading development companies are also constantly investing in and innovating around their testing capabilities (which is why they work with and embrace Test IO as a trusted partner </humblebrag>). There are a LOT of brilliant people working in this space, doing really, really cool things at the intersection of #technology, #process, and #strategy. But to get them to celebrate their commitment to Quality, and wear it on their sleeve(s) as a reason why customers should choose their products and digital experiences over alternatives? It's often crickets all the way down. Internally, too. More than one customer has told us that they don't have any internal Quality KPIs because they don't want to threaten morale or undermine confidence in their developers. Is there a way to position Quality externally to drive #confidence and #loyalty in a customer base? Is there a way to celebrate Quality to drive confidence and #pride internally?
