Yesterday, I had the privilege of participating in the virtual workshop "Transmission and Distribution: The Clean Energy Transitions Secret Weapon," hosted by the Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP). It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss the transmission analysis findings from the "Alaska’s Railbelt Electric System: Decarbonization Scenarios For 2050" study, a collaborative effort between Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) and Telos Energy. I shared insights during the panel discussion on "Railbelt Considerations for Integrating Renewables in a Transmission System." Huge thanks to Steve Colt and Brittany Smart for the invitation, and a special appreciation to all the engaged attendees who made the panel session truly impactful. We know that detailed grid analysis of inverter-based renewables is increasingly critical to reliable operations. We also know that performing detailed (EMT) analysis on large grids is exceedingly difficult, if not intractable. So how we do deal with this present dilemma? I'm very proud of the work we (Telos Energy and Nicholas Miller) have done with the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) to develop a new approach for assessing voltage stability on large, IBR-dominant grids using a strategic combination of steady-state EMT methods. Happy New Years! This week Telos Energy reaches a big milestone and wraps up its 5th year! I think that means we're officially not a start-up anymore. but hopefully not old news yet. We have built an incredible team and taken on some of the most interesting challenges in the electric power industry - we're fortunate to actually get paid to do such cool work with a great set of clients. It has been quite the ride and I couldn't have asked for more. Huge shout out to my partner Matthew Richwine for taking the leap with me, to the rest of the Telos Team for jumping on board, and Jessica Stenclik, PhD, ABPP for the unyielding support!
