  • Mayor Adams Signs Bill Paving Way for Electrification of All New York City fleet vehicles, including motorcycles Being the only electric motorcycle manufacturer in NYC, we commend the ZEV for NYC Act for including motorcycles as a specific vehicle category. New York City is turning a new page in its approach to urban life, with a renewed focus on environmental sustainability and air quality. The city's extensive government fleet with over 30,000 vehicles, known for its ever-present role across the Fire Department, Parks and Recreation, and the NYPD, is embarking on a green transformation that's nothing short of revolutionary. Mayor Adams has put into motion a decisive strategy for environmental leadership. The recently signed ZEV for NYC Act (Int. 279A-2022) is a testament to this commitment, mandating a complete transition to zero-emission vehicles within the city’s fleet by 2038. This change isn't just about cars; it's a comprehensive overhaul that includes all vehicles, even motorcycles, signaling a profound respect for the environment in every sector of city transit. "Transitioning to electric vehicles isn't only about meeting our sustainability goals. It's about forging a better future for every New Yorker, ensuring cleaner air and a healthier city," stated Mayor Adams. "Our progress towards a greener fleet is already ahead of the curve, and with this new legislation, we're not just continuing on this path; we're accelerating down it." - Mayor Adams "We are incredibly energized by New York City's bold stride towards environmental responsibility. As natives of Brooklyn and pioneers in electric motorcycles, witnessing this kind of commitment from our home city is deeply meaningful. Imagine the city's fleet, sleek and silent, making its rounds through the heart of New York, powered entirely by clean, renewable energy. That's the future we're building, and we're thrilled it aligns so closely with the vision set forth by Mayor Adams and the ZEV for NYC Act." - Taras Kravtchouk, Founder and CEO of Tarform Images: Artistic rendering and Tarform electric motorcycles as imagined on the streets of NYC. • Rise and Fall, and Rise of EV's ⬆ ⬇ ⬆ In 1900, EVs were not a glimpse into the future; they were the present, representing about 30% of all vehicles. The streets of cities like New York were dotted with electric taxis, symbolizing innovation, sustainability, and progress. EVs of the early 20th century had several advantages over their gasoline and steam counterparts. They were smoother, quieter, and lacked the offensive odors emitted by internal combustion engines. Thomas Edison, a fervent supporter of electric vehicles, and Henry Ford, a pioneer of gasoline cars, had once teamed up to develop a low-cost electric car. However, their ambitious project didn’t see the light of day due to the challenges associated with battery technology during that period. Imagine the course of history had this collaboration succeeded. This historical detour, marked by prioritization of immediate economic and consumer needs over long-term sustainability led to a pivotal shift, a departure from the electric dawn to an era dominated by petroleum. The expansive oil fields, the allure of speed, and mass production — all served as catalysts to the proliferation of internal combustion engines, overshadowing the silent harmony of electric mobility. This largely forgotten era symbolizes an unfulfilled, sustainable promise that lay dormant for almost a century. “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” mused George Santayana. The journey of electric vehicles (EVs) exemplifies this, encapsulating a paradox of innovation and regression, short-term gains and long-term consequences. Did our inability to envisage the long-term consequences of our choices and our relentless pursuit of immediate gains blind us to the ecological promises of electric mobility? Our preference for petroleum-based energy over continuing advancements in EV technology sowed the seeds of numerous ecological challenges. As we are witnessing a resurgence in the popularity of EVs today, driven by advancements in technology and a renewed awareness of sustainability, it’s a pertinent time to look back and learn from our historical divergence. We are once again at a juncture where the decisions we make will sculpt the future of mobility and the ecological legacy we leave behind. The return to our electric roots is not just a technological transition; it’s a thoughtful realignment with ecological harmony and a commitment to innovate sustainably for the generations to come. Let’s ensure our journey forward is in alignment between our innovations and the long-term well-being of our planet.

  • “I found something mystical in those machines: a combination of aesthetics and speed, a quest for innovation and pure thrill.” —Taras Kravtchouk, founder of Tarform Inc. In The Motorcycle Industry in New York State: 2nd Edition, author Geoffrey N. Stein makes a celebrated attempt to identify all of New York’s motorcycle inventors and builders, tracing back to the late 1800s. Tarform is proud to be featured on the book cover as well as the interior, representing the latest design and technological innovation in the world of two-wheeled mobility. Unlike the beginning of the 21st century, where the motorcycle remained largely a seasonal and recreational vehicle, “the exhilaration of piloting a motorcycle now motivates an increasing number of enthusiastic riders,” Stein states. With 128K Instagram followers under their belt, Tarform has attracted many riders, old and new alike, to join this free-spirited and sustainable journey. Continue reading to learn about how Tarform was born.👇 Tarform’s origin story (excerpt from p.194-195): “During my day job I was helping startups actualize their ideas by providing plans that ranged from napkin sketches to complete technological solutions. As a counterbalance, I spent my nights and weekends at a shop restoring and building vintage motorcycles. I found something mystical in those machines: a combination of aesthetics and speed, a quest for innovation and pure thrill. One day, as I was working on my Triumph that was leaking oil, I was struck by how seriously these machines were due for an overheal and that it was time to embrace new ways of approaching automotive sustainability. I wanted to think beyond electrification, to reconsider how the machines are actually made: what materials are being used during the fabrication and if it is possible to create temporary vehicles that preserve the spirit of craftsmanship. That became the catalyst for Tarform.” Learn more at https://lnkd.in/eXGcUh5K
