At Tapestry 360 Health, our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is at the heart of everything we do. This PRIDE Month, we are proud to highlight the incredible members of our LGBTQ Committee, who work tirelessly to ensure that our healthcare environment is safe, affirming, and inclusive for all.
Meet Anne Tarricone, LSW, CN-BM (She/Her), one of our LGBTQ Members:
"I think every queer person has had at least one (but often more) negative experience receiving healthcare. From being subjected to prejudice to having
assumptions made about our health, it discourages queer people from seeking primary care. A committee like this is needed in all healthcare spaces to create a safe and supportive environment for queer patients and employees.
The importance of LGBTQ inclusivity and representation goes beyond the interaction between a provider and a patient. It starts when a patient is making the appointment, to checking into their appointment, to the data embedded in their medical records. Medical records, data, and research has historically only considered cisgender and heterosexual people and has never been “neutral”. An equitable approach to support the LGBTQ community is to give us power in decision making in all aspects of healthcare, including tech and research.
As the cancer prevention manager, I create resources with gender neutral language since, for example, not all people who need mammograms or pap smears identify as women."
