Michael Martinez, a Senior Channel Sales Manager here at Symmetry Systems and long time DLP guy, asks the hard questions this #NationalCybersecurityAwarenessMonth. Are you still Relying on DLP to Stop Data Leaks? Time for a New Approach. Playing whack-a-mole with Data Loss Prevention tools isn't cutting it anymore. Everyone's trying to stop sensitive data from walking out the door, but some key questions remain: 😕 Do organizations even know where ALL their sensitive data lives? Really know? 😕 And here's a thought - why do so many people have access to data they don't need? Security teams are so focused on stopping data leaks that they've forgotten to ask the obvious question: what if people never had unnecessary access to begin with? It's time to flip the script. Instead of constantly firefighting potential data leaks, what about preventing unnecessary access from the start? That's where DSPM (Data Security Posture Management) comes in. Because the best defense isn't just stopping data loss - it's making sure data only goes to the right people in the first place. Simple truth: You can't lose what you don't have access to.

Our Head of Security & GRC Engineering, Gopi Ramamoorthy, reminds us that #NationalCybersecurityAwarenessMonth, led by Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) isn't just for organizations - it's for our families, friends, and communities too. 🏘️ Share this with at least one family member today. They'll thank you later! Use Strong Passwords 🔑 🔑 Long, random, and unique 🔑 Include all: ABC, abc, 123, !@# 🔑 Use a password manager Pro tip: The longer the better - think passphrases! Turn On MFA 🛡️ 🛡️ Essential for ALL online accounts 🛡️ Especially: email, social media, banking 🛡️ Makes you 99% less likely to get hacked Pro tip: Use authenticator apps over SMS when possible Recognize & Report Phishing 🎣 🎣 Be wary of unexpected messages 🎣 Never share sensitive info with unknown sources 🎣 Report attempts, then delete Pro tip: If it creates urgency, it's probably a scam Update Software 🔄 🔄 Enable automatic updates when possible 🔄 Regularly check connected devices 🔄 Don't delay those "Update Now" prompts Pro tip: Set a monthly "update everything" reminder Remember: Your digital safety impacts everyone connected to you. Strong security is an act of community care. 🤝

🎉 Proud to announce that I've achieved the Symmetry Systems DSPM Security Specialist certification! 🎉 ok ok... I may have had a slight advantage as I helped author much of the content and questions along with Michael Martinez 😅, but it's still a great way to test your DSPM knowledge. While this certification is primarily targeted at our amazing channel partners, it's open to anyone who wants to challenge themselves and dive deeper into Data Security Posture Management. Think you're up for it? Take the quiz (link in comments) and see where you stand! #DSPM #Cybersecurity #SymmetrySystems #SecuritySpecialist #ChannelPartners

Claude Mandy, reminds us that effective cybersecurity starts with taking care of yourself and your team. If you're reading this on the weekend, ask yourself: ❓Do you need to be online? ❓Do you really need to send that email now? ❓Do you know who is on-call this weekend and is it rotated? Your team mirrors your habits. Burnout isn't a security strategy. 📢 Throughout National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, led by Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA), the Symmetry Systems team will be sharing great tips and info all month long! Stay tuned and Stay cyber safe!

Day 4 of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, led by Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA). Jason Wallace, one of our awesome account executives, reflects back on the recent Snowflake incidents, which forced Snowflake to enable mandatory MFA and the lessons for other software vendors. Ask yourselves: 🤔 Why wait for a breach to do the right thing? 🤔 How many customers must be compromised first? 🤔 When will "optional security" stop being an option? 📢 Throughout #NationalCybersecurityAwarenessMonth, the Symmetry Systems team will be sharing great tips and info all month long! Stay tuned and Stay cyber safe!

Day 3 of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, led by Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA). Our Head of Security & GRC Engineering, Gopi Ramamoorthy reminds us of California's new law (AB-2013), effective Jan 1, 2026, requiring businesses to disclose the sources of AI training data used since Jan 1, 2022. His advice for any organization training AI on their own datasets? 🤖 Are you tracking all data assets involved in AI training? 🤖 Do you know the sources of those data sets? 🤖 Are you regularly updating and publishing your training data inventory? Stay ahead and start your AI data transparency today! 📢 Throughout #NationalCybersecurityAwarenessMonth, the Symmetry Systems team will be sharing great tips and info all month long! Stay tuned and Stay cyber safe!

You've always been and always will be a Top Data Security Voice to us, Claude Mandy! ❤️
This is downright hilarious. They're retiring the Community Top Voice badge on October 8th... right after I accidentally earned one for Data Security! So for weeks, I had wrestled with the concept of these AI-generated Collaborative Articles. As a #datasecurity evangelist, I ultimately decided to contribute - not for badges or because I love AI, but because I feel there is a real need to ensure accurate, high-quality information about data security was being shared. Happy to share plenty of examples of poor LinkedIn collaborative articles, and even worse responses. After all, counterbalancing potentially misleading or incorrect security advice with expert knowledge is part of my role. So I focused on improving the quality of data security discussions... and somehow ended up with a soon-to-be-retired gold badge in the process! The irony isn't lost on me. As they say, timing is everything in comedy... and apparently in LinkedIn badges too! Aanyone else accidentally joined the gold badge club just in time for its retirement party?

On the second day of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, led by Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA), let's turn your attention to vendors using your data to train their AI without your consent. Our GTM Strategist, Lars Delin reminds us that data security really comes back to who you share it with. 📢 Throughout National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the Symmetry Systems team will be sharing great tips and info all month long! Stay tuned and Stay cyber safe! #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth #DataSecurity #CISA #CyberSmart
