  • We’ve been visiting the Dorset Quarry to cliff jump in the summertime since our inception in 2016, always followed by a visit to Bill Wilson’s grave and The Wilson House of East Dorset (birthplace of AA co-founder Bill W) There is something comforting about the idea that generations of sober men make this trip and build beautiful, sober memories. Another group departs on Saturday for Mount Surfside, our retreat house in Newfane, VT. “… a fellowship has grown up among us of which it is a wonderful thing to feel a part. The joy of living we really have, even under pressure and difficulty.” - Bill’s Story, pg. 15

  • Last week, our Program Director Kevin Loalbo shared a reading from Morning Meditation that emphasized the value of male role models in recovery. We take pride in hiring folks that are willing to walk the talk, getting in the mix with our guys and participating in sports and activities alongside them. When we join our residents in activity, we lead by example. We show that we’re ALSO willing to set aside fear (like fear of not being good enough or fear of what others think of us). No point in telling you to do something if we aren’t willing to do it ourselves!

  • Tuesday afternoon Community Service at The Funny Farm Rescue can be hard work in all kinds of weather… but time with these animals also fills our cup. Many of the animals at the sanctuary would be considered “lost causes” for many people - extreme medical issues, etc. It’s comforting for people in recovery to see that no creature is beyond help or unworthy of love. We get to show up regularly and “make gratitude an action word” by doing some hard work to show the animals & rescue team a little love!

  • Over the last few months, we added Pickleball as one of our rotating afternoon activities - the local indoor court makes it an all-weather favorite. Pickleball enthusiasts everywhere will agree that it’s a perfect activity for folks of all ages athletic abilities. For us, we see: 🏓 A sport with a low barrier to entry - easy to learn with varying levels of competition. 🫱🏼🫲🏽 Another chance to form healthy relationships by first building rapport around a shared hobby. 🗣️ Opportunities to improve communication, practice patience, and cheer someone else on. Also… it’s really fun.
