    We have recently read an HBR article on blind hiring and the famous orchestra study and it got us thinking. . . . . During the last recruitment, we were thinking about how we can truly make a difference in our hiring processes, and over and over again we see a lot of benefit in doing it as unbiased as possible - probably no surprise there. We always do our best to focus solely on what really matters: skills and experience. Large number of studies show how removing bias can both boost diversity and enhance performance. Boosts diversity by levelling the playing field, we open the door for a more inclusive candidate pool that reflects diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Enhances performance by the fact that diverse teams are more innovative and make better decisions. When we embrace different viewpoints, everyone wins! However, we have never tried doing hiring completely blind - removing names, genders, photos and all other identifiers.     Is it just us, or there is still a lot of repetitive tasks in recruitment? Reviewing resumes, scheduling interviews, and sending follow-up emails are just a few examples of the monotonous work that can easily be automated. Our discovery calls revealed that recruiters easily spend up to 5 hours a week just screening CVs. There is yet again time spent on scheduling calls, running repetitive tests and evaluating base questions. The World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2023 notes that 42% of tasks in hiring could be automated by 2027, leading to enormous time and cost savings. Instead of focusing on routine administrative tasks, teams can invest in improving candidate experience and focusing on more meaningful interactions that lead to better hires. This is crucial, as a bad hire can cost a company over $14,000, according to independent studies. Imagine the difference if the time spent on repetitive tasks were redirected to activities like talent development, diversity initiatives, or innovative hiring strategies. In a world where the cost of filling a vacant position averages $4,425 per hire, the efficiencies gained from automation are more important than ever.     🧠 🧐 Why do we keep calling Soft skills “Soft”?? While hard skills remain essential for entering some industries at least for a while, soft skills are increasingly seen as the differentiator in long-term career success, advancement, and adaptability. Many employers now prioritize these skills in hiring and leadership development, as they are seen as critical for sustainable success in a rapidly evolving professional landscape. What is more, hard skills are becoming substituted with AI, so the role of soft skills and the augmented brain - using AI to do the work is becoming increasingly important. Soft skills are personal attributes and interpersonal abilities that enable individuals to effectively solve problems, make strategic decisions, analyze a situation, interact, collaborate, and communicate with others. Unlike hard skills, which are technical or job-specific abilities, soft skills are more about how people manage relationships, develop product offerings, and navigate social environments. With technological development, fast-changing environments, and increased globalization there is a strong shift towards soft skills and their relative importance. ✨ Amongst the top you will find these skills: · Communication: The ability to convey ideas clearly and listen actively. · Teamwork: Collaborating effectively with others. · Adaptability: Being flexible and open to change. · Creativity and Problem-solving: Analyzing issues and finding solutions. · Emotional intelligence: Recognizing and managing one’s own emotions, as well as understanding the emotions of others. So we highly support to call these skills differently. They are not soft skills anymore. How would you call them rather?     When will skill assessment get the right priority if not now? Several sources collectively underscore the changing dynamics of the labor market (see link in the comments), illustrating that while there are still opportunities for employees, the increased competition and recent corporate layoffs indicate a shift in favour of employers. In simple words, more candidates, less positions to fill. The number of applicants for single position is further increased by easy application processes. A talent acquisition leader from the Middle East we had a discussion with, reported that they receive 800 applications in the first 48 hours for some of their positions. The pot is getting stirred again by increasing adoption of AI - just as Gonzalo Gonzalez writes it so well in his article: https://lnkd.in/dhgAhZ_D. At the end of the day, AI will solve multiple problems related to hard skills, which means, we will need the best problem-solver and team player with a growth mindset who stands out from the rest of the candidates. Having the right skills assessed early in the screening process is key to find the best match for a role.
