About us
Each year, Students Run LA (SRLA) creates a safe, supportive community at 180 public schools, welcoming 3,000 at-risk middle and high school students across Greater Los Angeles to train alongside their volunteer adult mentors to complete the Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon. Through this life-changing program, SRLA students discover their best selves and learn how to make plans for the future. In March 2017, nearly 3,000 SRLA students run the Los Angeles Marathon. Consistently, 99% successfully cross the finish line 26.2 miles later each year! This experience literally changes these young people's lives as they discover what they can accomplish through hard work and commitment. In 2017, 99% of 650 SRLA seniors graduated high school; 96% of them had plans to attend college in the fall - 430 of whom were among the first generation in their families to go to college! We're on track to repeat these great results, again, this year. SRLA's program is free for all student participants, most of whom come from low-income neighborhoods. With the support of its donors, SRLA provides students with training shirts, shoes, entry fees, transportation, and more to support them in their training.

Meet the students running LA! 🙌 Jonmathew 🙌 Jonmathew has been completely transformed, physically and mentally, by his marathon experience with SRLA. Now an 11th grader at Animo Venice Charter High School, he was inspired to join SRLA to follow in his family's footsteps - he grew up watching his mother and sisters participate in the LA Marathon. Jonmathew was severely overweight before joining SRLA and had become seriously ill. Running helped him build his confidence and was a positive outlet during his most difficult times. Since joining SRLA, Jonmathew has found joy in running and transformed his mindset from "I can't do it" to "I can do anything if I set a plan and put in the effort". Now, when there is a challenge, he does not back down.

Over the past 35 years, students have represented SRLA on the Los Angeles Marathon race course in almost every color of the rainbow. This year's marathon uniform design celebrates our roots. 3,200 students and leaders will be representing SRLA in this uniform on Marathon Day (in just two short weeks). We hope you will join us in the celebration! Thank you to the LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games for providing each of our students and leaders with a singlets and shorts. Nearly 3,500 uniforms were distributed to 190 schools over the weekend. SRLA is ready to run as one!

Such a pleasure to have you and your amazing energy there, thank you!
This past Sunday, my wife and I had a great time hanging out with our running family at the Students Run LA Friendship Run as part of the “Running Them In” Crew.🤗 Our job was to cheer on the students and participants at the last few miles of the 30k race. Along with getting paired up with a student who needed some extra encouragement to the finish line, helping them get there before the 16-minute per mile pacer and qualify for the 2024 Los Angeles Marathon presented by ASICS Corporation 🌆 Afterwards, the fun continued at San Fernando Brewing Company where we hung out and enjoyed pizza with the rest of the volunteers.🎉 Till next year… #srla #friendshiprun #runningcommunity #runforacause #running #losangeles

Today is National Girls and Women in Sports Day! #NGWSD2024 In Celebration, we are sharing Stacie's story for of all the girls and women who are a part of SRLA, past and present! Stacie tried many different sports growing up - synchronized swimming, tennis, but never truly felt like they were right for her. SRLA gave Stacie the challenge she was looking for. It allowed her to push herself daily and practice determination. Stacie has always looked up to her mother, she admires her as a woman who doesn't let obstacles stand in her way. Stacie and her mother have something in common - they both ran with Polytechnic High School SRLA. Stacie’s mother ran in 1997 and 1998 and now Stacie is on her way to completing her second marathon with SRLA. Being in SRLA has allowed Stacie to feel closer to her mother, because she is developing the same tenacity that her mother did. Stacie’s mother is extremely involved with her SRLA group and supports the team at races and practices. Stacie will be running the LA Marathon, with her mother cheering her on, on March 17th. With young, Latina girls being the demographic group least likely to participate in physical activity, providing opportunities for runners like Stacie and her teammates is more important now than ever. Thank you for supporting 35 years of SRLA girls and women!

Will you motivate and inspire students on their journey to the Los Angeles Marathon? We are asking SRLA Supporters to write “Motivational Valentines” to our students, encouraging them to keep working hard this SRLA season so they can cross the finish line in March as well as the graduation stage in May. Our goal is 2,900 cards, one for each SRLA student to read before the start of the Los Angeles Marathon. Will you help us reach our goal? Learn more: https://bit.ly/3WptBD9
