#The930Call is BACK this week starting with a special call this morning ... Monday, September 30 | Pouring From An Empty Cup, A Focus on Directors with Donna Denette, Executive Director, Children First Enterprises, Inc. - Granby, MA In talking to fellow directors and reading posts in the MA Directors’ Group, we often privately or anonymously share how much we are struggling with a work-life balance and the demands of our jobs. As a group, we are typically "dig deep and get 'er done" types, who rarely let anyone see us sweat. We very naturally advocate for the teachers, children, and families to whom we dedicate so much. We rarely advocate strictly for ourselves. As our entire sector is being reviewed, particularly through the efforts of Strategies for Children's "The Early Childhood Agenda," we have an opportunity to further strengthen the long-term health of our field by sharing the challenges that we uniquely face. My goals are to help advocates, funders, and decision-makers better understand the importance of our role, ensure that our unique challenges are considered in the re-evaluation of the early childhood landscape, and intentionally approach the "pipeline" issue for leadership succession. Join us to learn more through feedback from a survey completed by 132 early childhood program directors. #EyeOnEarlyChildhood Friday quote: “The Boston School Committee’s chair person helped kindergarteners on their first day of school Monday — 70 years after she started kindergarten at the very same school. “Jeri Robinson remembers her first day at Hale Elementary School clearly — and credits it as the spark that led to her decades-long career in education. “ ‘I remember going home on the very first day, telling my mother, “I know what I’m going to be when I grow up — I’m going to be a kindergarten teacher,” ’ Robinson said. ‘And it really did launch my career.’ “Robinson went on to have a career in education spanning more than 40 years, including work at Boston Public Schools and at the Boston Children’s Museum. “She has since retired from teaching and from her post at the museum, but returns to the Hale school annually to help the new students on their first day ‘to be there in case anyone needs a hug.’ ” — “Longtime Boston educator helps kindergarteners on their first day — 70 years after hers,” by Matt Fortin, NBC10 Boston, September 9, 2024 Watch the segment: https://lnkd.in/e_KVY5_M
