  • ☀ What a day to celebrate California's 57th Annual #NativeAmericanDay! SGC joined the Governor's Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (formally Governor's Office of Planning and Research (OPR)) along with dozens of other state agencies and Tribal partners for a memorable celebration on the West Steps of the State Capitol. Our staff enjoyed engaging with the public about our Tribal grant programs and initiatives, along with networking with other state partners, and, of course, California’s first people - the Tribes that have called this land home, long before it was California. This year’s theme was “Recognizing 100 Years of Citizenship and the Fight for the Right to Vote: 1924-2024.” Thank you to the California Tribal Chairpersons’ Association for such a beautiful afternoon! See you next year!

  • ⭐ Thank you, Fresno Metro Black Chamber of Commerce for hosting the first Central Valley Mobility Summit this week!   Bringing together community members, businesses, nonprofits, and funding agencies from the clean mobility and #CleanEnergy industries from all over California was the perfect way to spend #ClimateWeekNYC here in the Golden State!   Our Deputy Director of Community Investments and Planning, Amar Azucena Cid joined Falisha Lucas, Deputy Director of CALSTART, Joey Juhasz-Lukomski, Program Manager with Shared-Use Mobility Center and Larry Rillera, with California Air Resources Board to panel a discussion on, “Powering California - The Statewide Drive Toward Electrification.”   The panel discussed how communities can be ready to implement zero emissions infrastructure, and for implementation to be successful there is a critical need to have ongoing partnerships between community-based organizations, and local, state, and federal governments, along with private partners. Really emphasizing that #trust is key in this work, and that we all need to work together to create more capacity programs and fund at the speed of community trust building. The panelist shared current funding programs, resources and tools available to increase community access to #clean transportation. This included specific resources for Tribal Nations and highlighting Women/Indigenous/Latina and Black Owned SBE/DVBE making huge strides in the Zero Emission and Electrification Industry. ⚡ 🤝 Truly a great day/week for collaboration! #ClimateResilience

  • 🤝 The California Strategic Growth Council (SGC) is leading the strategic engagement of California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment so that people across California can inform the work, participate in its research, and be prepared for its final release in 2026. It was an honor working with SGC Council member, and California Natural Resources Agency Secretary, Wade Crowfoot and SGC Council Chair and Director of the Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (formally Governor's Office of Planning and Research (OPR)) Samuel Assefa on this video project! 📽 Please take three minutes to watch and learn about California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment and why it is important to building a #CaliforniaForAll!

🌎 In honor of this year's #ClimateWeekNYC, we, alongside the California Strategic Growth Council, the California Natural Resources Agency , the California Energy Commission, and numerous expert and community partners, would like to formally introduce our work on California’s Fifth #ClimateChange Assessment (Fifth Assessment). 🤝   Worse and more frequent #extremeweather events and trends are impacting the state every year, making up-to-date information on #climate change essential for driving sound policy and investment decisions. 📈  The Fifth Assessment strengthens our understanding of climate change vulnerabilities in California through original research (#ClimateScience), new data products, and a series of regional and statewide reports to support on-the-ground implementation at the local, regional, tribal, and state levels, focusing on the needs of communities most vulnerable to #climateimpacts. Please watch this short video introduction to California's Climate Assessment and join the mailing list (link in comments) to learn more about ways you can get involved this #ClimateWeek and every week! 🔗

  • 🌎 It’s #ClimateWeekNYC and the California Strategic Growth Council and Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (formally Governor's Office of Planning and Research (OPR)) would like to use this time to reflect and elevate the lessons learned from this year’s National Tribal & Indigenous Climate Conference (NTICC), hosted by the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals! The theme of this year's conference of "Shared Responsibility for Indigenous #ClimateResilience," is one our staff takes very seriously. Understanding that Indigenous knowledge is scientific knowledge; and enhancing partnerships with youth are important components to consider as we continue the #climate conversation. Please watch our short video reflection on NTICC 2024 from SGC Deputy Director of Community Investments and Planning, Amar Azucena Cid, and join us in celebrating NYC Climate Week 2024!  #ClimateJustice #ClimateResilience

  • 📢Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) Round 5 funds in action! The City of Imperial will break ground next month on a $6.6 million community development project in a rural area of the county near West Worthington Road and Barioni Boulevard. 🏘️ The “Worthington La Luna” project will not only bring #AffordableHousing to the area but also build pedestrian-friendly transit options through the development of the bike lanes, signage, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, pedestrian crossings, and other tie-in features. #AHSC is administered by the California Strategic Growth Council and implemented by the California Department of Housing & Community Development. AHSC is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities. #CaliforniaForAll
