Stop AAPI Hate
Non-profit Organizations
Stop AAPI Hate is a national coalition aimed at addressing anti-Asian racism across the U.S.
About us
In response to the alarming escalation in xenophobia and bigotry resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the AAPI Equity Alliance, Chinese for Affirmative Action, and the Asian American Studies Department of San Francisco State University launched the Stop AAPI Hate coalition on March 19, 2020. The coalition tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, and child bullying against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States. Our approach recognizes that in order to effectively address anti-Asian racism we must work to end all forms of structural racism leveled at Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color.

As we get closer to #Election2024, our coalition is staying vigilant to hold public figures accountable when they push hate-fueled rhetoric and policies that scapegoat our communities. Anti-Asian political scapegoating is a form of hate that’s fueling racism, xenophobia, and discrimination today. 🗞️ Read the latest edition of our series, Offenders & Defenders, for the latest news on anti-Asian scapegoating – from anti-immigrant rhetoric during the first Presidential debate, to bigoted attacks against Indian women at the recent Republican National Convention. 👇

After two days of public outcry from Asian Americans, allies, and advocacy groups, the New York Post issued a retraction and apology for falsely reporting that the suspect in the Trump rally shooting was “a Chinese man.” Thanks NBC News for highlighting this important win for our communities: https://lnkd.in/gqq7V5TT ⚠️ Let’s be clear: anti-Asian rhetoric and misinformation are forms of hate, and have real-life consequences for our communities. If you see harmful language in the news or online, report it at https://lnkd.in/gPHRbwVi

💭 “Racism doesn’t just occur on an individual level, and healing, hoping for a different future, requires collective action.” Launched by our partners AAPI Equity Alliance, the HOPE (Healing Our People Through Engagement) Program harnesses the power of community building and collective healing to engage AAPI individuals in dialogue regarding the impacts of racism in our communities. Learn more about the HOPE Program, and why the radical healing framework is a powerful tool to address the mental health impacts of racism. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gsSTEPi6

Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are the fastest-growing electorate. Now is the time to mobilize our communities for the 2024 elections, and make a huge impact at the polls this November. 🗳️ This summer, join AAPI community members, leaders, and organizers in Philidelphia, PA for APIA Vote's National AAPI Leadership Summit and the AAPI Presidential Town Hall. From July 11-13, our communities will come together to discuss the power of our electorate, hear from our presidential candidates, and discuss how they plan to empower our communities. In honor of Gun Violence Awareness Month, Stop AAPI Hate’s Cynthia Choi and Andy Wong went to the White House this week to discuss how to address root causes of gun violence – including racism, xenophobia, and gender-based violence – and support impacted communities on the path to healing. Thank you to the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention for bringing together survivors, researchers, and advocates for this critical conversation. #EndGunViolence

📢 Introducing our new series: Offenders and Defenders: This Month in Anti-Asian Scapegoating 🐐 Each month, we’re breaking down the latest news about, anti-Asian political rhetoric and policies to show what Asian Americans and other marginalized people have known for centuries: Leaders who scapegoat entire communities do not make our country more safe. Their actions only fuel hate, racism, and discrimination. 👎 In our June edition, learn why Georgia has been on our mind since the passing of a new racist land ban, SB 420. #StopTheBlame

💭 “If you want to run fast, you do it by yourself but if you want to run far, you do it together. This is all about Stop AAPI Hate…we can go far together.” In a conversation with Stop AAPI Hate’s co-founder Cynthia Choi, AAPI advocate and philanthropist Clifford K. Chiu shares his family’s immigration story and how those experiences motivate his passion for combating anti-Asian racism, fostering cross-racial solidarity, and increasing representation of AAPIs in the workplace and beyond. We’re able to continue our work thanks to people like Clifford, who generously supported our Spread AAPI Love storytelling campaign.
