"I was excited about the opportunity to work on a project for the organization while being supported by supervisors, mentors, and peers." As an intern in the property and casualty underwriting department, Davis is eager to enhance her risk management skills. "I have been learning about the different departments in the company, which has given me a more complete understanding of the insurance industry processes. I am conducting research to understand the impacts of Secondary Perils, such as tsunamis after an earthquake or damage from lightning. I am very excited to present my research." Davis emphasizes the three key aspects she seeks in an internship: the opportunity for growth and professional experience, access to professional leadership and mentoring, and a friendly and welcoming company culture. "On my first day, I was greeted with warm smiles and cheers, as well as an inbox full of personalized cards from State Farm employees, including managers and executives. Interning at State Farm means getting to be a part of the neighborhood of hard-working individuals who are passionate about helping people." Ariel McLanahan was in search of a gratifying career – one where she could make a difference, while having the flexibility to be there for her family as well. "Soon after the birth of my first son, I came across the State Farm independent contractor agent opportunity. I began as an agent team member working for two agents. Over those eight years, I gained experience and a strong foundation. With two children, my husband and I relocated 850 miles away to open my own agent office in South Carolina." Though still in the early stages of her career, Ariel shares her vision of what she hopes to leave behind. "I’m very proud of what my team and I continue to build for the community. The culture of my agent office means everything to me – people leave feeling like family. My end goal is to make a lasting impact on my team members, State Farm customers, and the community. Work hard, be kind, and take good care of people. It’s simple, but results will follow." Learn more about becoming a State Farm independent contractor agent: https://lnkd.in/giWjAvk9

July is Disability Pride Month, a time dedicated to honoring the strength, resilience, and unique identities of individuals with disabilities. For Shane, a public relations manager, celebrating this month is not just about personal reflection but also about fostering community and promoting understanding. "In my experience, recognizing Disability Pride Month and talking about how we’re differently abled can help others feel less alone. "When I hear people talking about having Tourette’s or a stutter like me, I feel this sense of camaraderie from the shared experience. Since I’m usually the only one in my professional and friend groups with tics, remembering there are others like me is super helpful." Shane's journey emphasizes the significance of visibility and community in embracing one's disability. "I recommend that anyone struggling to embrace their own disability to find a community of others who share a similar experience. Companies like State Farm, for example, have great employee resource groups. If you feel alone, resources like that can make you feel less so." Trevor Halloran grew up in a small town near State Farm headquarters. To him, it seemed like everyone he knew worked there. Although Trevor never envisioned working for the company himself, he hoped to someday run a business of his own like his father. "After graduating from college, I was introduced to a State Farm independent contractor agent. It opened my eyes to the possibility of owning my own business while representing a reputable company. I spent the next 18 months working for him and learning what it takes to run a successful agency. It was during this time I realized that being a State Farm agent was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life." When the right opportunity presented itself, Trevor opened his agent office in Edwardsville, IL. “Since opening my office doors, my dad was inspired to become a State Farm agent as well. Together, we get to experience the perfect blend of personal and professional fulfillment, allowing us to be there for our families and make meaningful contributions to the communities we serve." Desha, Talent Management Manager, is a testament to the transformative power of internships. She began her career three decades ago as a summer intern and now leads a team who supports recruiting State Farm interns. Desha credits her decision to pursue a career with the organization to her internship experience. She vividly remembers her time as an intern. "We formed long-term relationships and built connections across various departments. Upon graduating, I couldn’t shake how important I felt when working here. It was the reason I pursued a career with State Farm." Desha credits the company's unwavering dedication to helping people as a significant factor in her continued commitment. Throughout her journey, she has had the opportunity to work in various departments, across multiple states, and build a network of relationships that feel like family. Desha's connection to the organization goes beyond her professional journey. This year she and her husband, both long-time employees at State Farm, proudly watched as one of their daughters began her own adventure as a State Farm intern. "My heart was bursting with pride to see Brooke start her State Farm journey. Celebrating my 30th year this month is surreal especially as I looked out at the intern group on day one and saw her sitting in the audience." As Desha continues to lead a team that supports interns, she draws from her own experience, understanding the impact that internships can have on shaping one's future. “My mind races with ways to innovate and continually modernize our program so we remain an employer of choice for interns. Interning is not just a summer job; it is a chance to step into your future self and consider possibilities. It has the potential to clearly define and in some cases, like mine, redesign career plans.” Join our Talent Neighborhood to receive alerts about upcoming internship opportunities. https://lnkd.in/gZCPaKeR

State Farm Agent Chase Foust shares how his parents’ hard work and dedication shaped his upbringing, instilling essential values, morals, and lessons that have guided him throughout his life. "At the age of 13, I experienced a great loss when my father passed. This pivotal moment forced me to reflect on my own life and the role life insurance played in providing comfort for my family despite the tragedy. It was during this introspective period that I had a realization – I could use my own experience to assist others as they navigate similar challenges and help protect their families from unforeseen circumstances." Coming from a rural setting and an Arkansas native, Chase takes immense pride in his country roots. "Growing up in such an environment has taught me the value of my word. It has shaped my character and reinforced my commitment to honesty, loyalty, and the principles that form a close-knit community. I’m driven to go above and beyond for customers to help make sure their needs are met. In my office, we answer the phones saying, ‘Living the dream at Chase Foust State Farm,’ because I get the privilege to ‘live my dream’ every day."
