#Throwback to my talk at The George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs: “Economic Security is National Security.” We can not have one without the other. It's not a straight line, but working with partners and allies we can succeed. To help connect the dots, I'll review three areas I'm working on: Strengthening our economy and our relationships with allies and partners; investing in ourselves and letting our companies lead the way; and promoting strategic competition . . . each of which inherently addresses our core policy issues. Diversification is key to really compete. The United States is helping level the playing field, and it's clear that other countries want this. This includes strengthening supply chains and addressing vulnerabilities, like critical minerals. All these things are felt in our daily lives. We must be competitive, we must diversify, we must mitigate climate change, we must stand for our values . . . this directly affects our personal security right here at home in the United States.

At Americas Society/Council of the Americas’ #AmericasPartnership Foreign Ministers Reception, we capped off a day of intense, productive meetings and seven plus months of hard work since the summit, — to deliver what’s needed — and what we're offering is sustained economic engagement. All these activities are setting us on a forward-leaning path to the 2025 Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity Leaders’ Summit, hosted by Costa Rica. The partnership is about ensuring that the 21st century is the Americas’ century, that our people have good jobs, that our communities are strong, and that we’re poised to work together to address common challenges—supply chain security and resilience, climate change, a clean energy transition, and a digital revolution. Thank you to #COA and Eric Farnsworth for hosting the closing program!
