On Saturday, April 27th, 2024, EDO Supervisor, Catina Dixon, was traveling on I-295 headed home to Clinton. Alongside her was her eldest daughter and together they noticed smoke coming from a SUV in the distance. As the two slowly approached the vehicle, they caught sight of an elderly gentleman sitting in the front seat. Upon further investigation, Catina and her daughter clearly saw liquid running underneath the truck and sparks of fire. It became clear that the gentleman was unaware his truck was moments away from burning. Catina and two other gracious citizens pulled over to assist with the situation. After multiple failed attempts to get the gentleman’s attention from a distance, the group knew they must approach to help him exit the disabled vehicle. Catina and the other good Samaritans approached the vehicle by crossing the guardrail. During this venture, Catina rolled her ankle but says “my adrenaline kept me going!” Finally, Catina and the others were able to get the gentleman’s attention, as well as help him over the guardrail to safety. Seconds later, the SUV was engulfed in flames and burned completely. The gentleman was so thankful for the group that helped him. He stated he was unaware that the SUV was beginning to burn and simply thought it was overheating. Catina says, “God is so good!” On Sunday, Catina went to the emergency room because her ankle was bothering her. This heroic deed resulted in 3 chip fractures and a sprain to her foot. Catina says, “I will take this injury again any day over seeing someone catch on fire in a vehicle.” We thank Catina for her great courage and dedication in assisting the gentleman and getting him to safety. This goes above and beyond Star’s motto of Neighbors Serving Neighbors! 💙
