Hello from The Netherlands! The 5th European B cell Network (EBCnet) Forum provided many opportunities for scientific exchange of ideas and constructive collaborations. Hester Koppejan offered insights and advice during her talk, ‘Do more with less: Analyze #Bcell subsets in detail with #CyTOF technology’, and the team initiated informative discussions at the poster sessions on how to detect immune activity in human tumors with high-throughput whole slide #imaging approaches using Imaging Mass Cytometry™. More on the event: https://lnkd.in/gXpZwAun More on comprehensive B cell imaging and analysis: https://lnkd.in/g4kh4FMd Thank you to Hester Koppejan and Sandra D.!

Did you know that more than 120 tumor subtypes originate from various parts of the central nervous system? This makes identifying the composition of a brain tumor microenvironment vital for early assessment of progression, treatment, and prevention. Use our #applicationnote on unraveling the complexity of mouse brain tumors to gain unprecedented insight into the tumor microenvironment by identifying major cell populations in the brain, such as neurons, astrocytes, microglia, and oligodendrocytes. Learn how to detect various tumor cell phenotypes and resident and infiltrating immune cells in mouse glioblastoma: https://lnkd.in/grcHpcec #ImagingMassCytometry #noautofluorescence #neuroscience #paneldesign

Identifying cellular- and spatial-level composition of the tumor microenvironment is vital for interpretation of disease origin, progression, prognosis and treatment options. New whole slide imaging modes and an integrated automated slide loader have been developed for Imaging Mass Cytometry™ that enable streamlined workflows using ultrafast Preview Mode and high-throughput Tissue Mode. To raise awareness of World Hepatitis Day, observed yearly on July 28, the latest BMC series highlights the integral hepatitis research being conducted in recent publications – providing key knowledge that can help inform ways to reduce hepatitis infection and mortality: https://lnkd.in/gTDGbJGb Work chosen from BMC Immunology used #masscytometry to analyze immunological features of peripheral blood in patients with hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure before and after artificial liver support system therapy. Researchers at Zhejiang University School of Medicine were able to detail the complexity of immune responses in these patients and suggest potential for tailored immunotherapeutic approaches aimed at optimizing treatment outcomes. #CyTOF #worldhepatitisday #liverhealth Springer Nature Group

What fun to be a part of celebrating the launch of the newly formed Space Force platform that represents the many #spatialomics technologies present at Leiden University Medical Center! Hester Koppejan presented at the event, discussing whole slide #spatialbiology assays powered by the Hyperion XTi™ Imaging System and how the use of spatial proteomics with #ImagingMassCytometry expands high-plex imaging applications to previously difficult tissue types including lung, bone marrow, colon and brain ― without background autofluorescence and spectral overlap. Thank you to LUMC for hosting the day and to Hester and Sandra D. for their participation and enthusiasm. The ability to work with different imaging approaches on the same slide and with the same system accelerates quantitative spatial biology discoveries. Preview Mode rapidly scans the sample and generates useful data for guiding ROI placement for Cell Mode, which acquires data at single-cell resolution. Tissue Mode generates a high-quality scan of the entire tissue section in a matter of hours, with higher spot-size ablations enabling entire tissue analysis using pixel-clustering analysis. Neurodegenerative diseases can vary from person to person, affecting people in different ways and with a variety of symptoms. Being able to fully address the brain’s complexity means clarifying the underlying molecular mechanisms driving neurodegeneration and using technology and tools that enable comprehensive assessment of the structural and cellular organization of the heterogeneous brain regions. Read our latest #scienceblog about how multiplex imaging can expedite the discovery of valuable biological insights into neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease: https://lnkd.in/gKGfKm-q #neurology #imaging #neurodegeneration

High-plex whole slide imaging is quickly becoming an essential tool for studying immune response and understanding biological networks. Yet, key to the workflow is choosing the right analysis approaches to leverage large data sets. Scientists at the University Hospital Erlangen got the chance to learn how to acquire such data using Imaging Mass Cytometry™, and then how to connect the right analysis pipelines combining HistoCat phenotyping methods with a downstream analysis in R. Thank you to the Universitätsklinikum Erlangen for hosting, and to Clara Reichardt, PhD student, and Melissa Klug, Field Application Scientist at Standard BioTools, for sharing their learnings and insights. The growing presence of antineoplastics, a type of anticancer drug, in aquatic environments is known to have detrimental effects on aquatic organisms. Warming effects from climate change can alter an organism’s sensitivity to these agents, intensifying any damage. New work from Universidade de Aveiro and the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC) assessed the possible toxicological effects of chronic exposure to the antineoplastic 5-Fluorouracil, under actual and predicted warming scenarios, in the estuarine bivalve species Mytilus galloprovincialis. Gene expression analysis by qPCR was performed using the Biomark X9™ System, allowing the analysis of up to 192 samples and 24 genes at once while reducing sample and reagent quantities. Results show that up to 11 genes encoding cell xenobiotic metabolic pathways, cell apoptosis and growth arrest, antioxidant defenses, osmosis, and immune/inflammatory response were down regulated at high drug concentrations and/or at warmer temperatures.
