One of the goals outlined in our new strategic plan is to equip communities to achieve their health priorities. What does this mean? We believe that addressing health disparities requires the expertise and leadership of those closest to the problem. That’s why capacity building, networks and social infrastructure, and community-directed giving are shaping many of our current and future funding opportunities. Building a vibrant and inclusive community where every individual can reach their full potential.
About us
St. David’s Foundation is one of the largest health foundations in the United States, funding over $80 million annually in a five-county area surrounding Austin, Texas. Through a unique partnership with St. David’s HealthCare, we strategically reinvest proceeds from the hospital system back into the community, with the goal of advancing health equity and improving the health and well-being of our most underserved Central Texas neighbors. Beyond our grantmaking work, we operate the largest mobile dental program in the country providing charity care and offer the largest healthcare scholarship program in Texas, the St. David’s Neal Kocurek Program. Through investments and action, we are committed to centering health equity in all that we do so that all Central Texans have a fair chance to achieve optimal health with no avoidable, unjust, or systematically caused differences in health status due to ethnicity, race, age, ability, or geography.

At St. David’s Foundation, we prioritize collaboration—as one of our core values, we aim to encourage and fund collaborative initiatives in our community. We also recognize the need for grantmakers to provide appropriate, formal support to make these collaborations effective and sustainable. On June 25, our partner GivingData will be presenting findings on nonprofit collaborations from the Sustained Collaboration Network’s latest report and leading a panel discussion including our own Vice President of Community Investments, Regan Gruber Moffitt. This webinar is free to attend and will particularly benefit grantmakers looking to play a larger role in helping nonprofits add capacity and amplify their impact through collaboration. We are still reflecting on last week’s stimulating conversation about community engagement in rural areas at the Grantmakers In Health conference. Our panel, including our Senior Program Officer Abena Asante and representatives from Missouri Foundation for Health and REACH Healthcare Foundation, discussed community engagement models, accessibility struggles, trust-based philanthropy, and more. Importantly, our community partner from Bastrop County, Krystal Grimes, MS, LPC, moderated the discussion and offered reflections related to her commitment to empowering community engagement. Thank you to all involved in making this session happen and and to those who attended and participated during the conference!
