Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, the U.S. Surgeon General, thinks it’s time that #socialmedia comes with a warning label, bringing attention to the mental health impacts on #teens. His recent op ed in the The New York Times highlighted some troubling findings: 🚨 Adolescents who spend more than 3 hours a day on social media face double the risk of anxiety and depression symptoms. (JAMA Psychiatry) 🚨 Half of adolescents say social media makes them feel worse about their bodies. (Boston Children’s Digital Wellness Lab) Adding the warning that Dr. Murthy recommends would require congressional action. In the meantime, it’s absolutely critical that teens have access to #mentalhealth care. 🌿 At Spring Health, we’ve created a safe, approachable experience that meets teens where they’re at. Right from their smartphones, teens can take a quick clinical assessment, book appointments with top therapists and coaches, and access a range of self-guided exercises designed to enhance skills like emotional regulation and manage stressors like body image and relationship issues. It might seem obvious... But having a safe place to live plays an essential role in mental health. 🏠 According to a 2024 study published in JAMA Psychiatry, two-thirds of unhoused people are experiencing some form of mental health condition, including substance use disorders, antisocial personality disorders, major depression and general mood disorders. The link between #housing and #mentalhealth is complex. People with mental illness are at a higher risk of experiencing homelessness—and experiencing homelessness can worsen mental health. It turns into a vicious cycle that can be hard to escape. Addressing this social determinant of health is crucial to bring mental health care to the 650,000 experiencing homelessness in the U.S. ➡️ Our Community Care solution does just that, providing whole-person support tackling the social and economic factors that influence health outcomes. Here’s how it works. 1. Members take a dynamic mental health assessment that screens for essential, social needs. 2. Based on the results, members will receive personalized recommendations for local resources to support their needs. 3. Members receive personalized assistance through our team of experienced Community Care Advocates or they can access self-service options. 4. Employers and partners receive comprehensive reporting, including utilization data and confirmation of members’ engagement with resources. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gm774saZ

When you think of #PTSD, what do you imagine? For a lot of us, stereotypes come to mind: war veterans, flashbacks, violent outbursts. And while war veterans certainly experience PTSD, and flashbacks and violent outbursts can be symptoms, there’s a lot more to PTSD than what’s shown in the media. Neal Kennington, Director of Clinical Sales at Spring Health, sheds light on the complexities of PTSD ahead of #PTSDAwarenessDay on Thursday. He discusses life events that may lead to trauma as well as trauma responses that can significantly impact someone’s life for years. As Neal says, trauma is personal—and it can affect absolutely anyone. #mentalhealth #PTSD

According to research published in the journal Psychological Science and shared by The New York Times, loneliness follows a U-shaped curve. It peaks in young adulthood and again later in life. It’s concerning, especially as 20% of the world’s employees experience daily loneliness, according to Gallup’s 2024 State of the Workplace. With the average full-time employee spending more than 2,000 hours working every year, #workplaces can play a key role in encouraging connection and reducing #loneliness. Here are a few tips that even 100% remote organizations can consider: ✔️ Intentionally create frequent moments for collaboration and conversations on Zoom or in real life, such as regular check-ins, morning team meetings, or social hours.
✔️ Plan in-person gatherings like quarterly or bi-annual retreats where employees can get together and build valuable relationships.
✔️ Promote the creation of social clubs or employee resource groups. These might be formed around a shared hobby, background, or identity. Does your workplace foster #connection in a unique or interesting way? Share in the comments! ⤵️
