Come help us on a volunteer day at the Tree Pittsburgh nursery. They grow over 100 varieties of regionally adapted trees and shrubs from locally collected seed. Growing from seed creates a more resilient crop from the pest and disease through genetic diversity. This process takes a significant amount of extra time and effort. We will be helping out with the transplanting on June 14th. We will be taking the small seedlings that were grown in the greenhouse a year or two ago and planing in 2-gallon pots, where they will live for another year or two before being distributed throughout Allegheny county to help with reforestation efforts. This will help combat the canopy loss in the city of Pittsburgh. It will be a lot of fun and a great way to learn about trees and their benefits to our urban development in Pittsburgh. Please join us from 9-12 on June 14th. Email me if you have any questions or are interested. [email protected]
