Spencer Hospital is hosting a Christmas in July - Toy Drive to support children impacted by recent flooding in our region. We are collecting NEW items for children ages 0-15, including toys, family games, and books. New items can be dropped off at Spencer Hospital in the Main Lobby daily until 9 PM or at Valet Monday-Friday until 4 PM. If you are unable to drop off gifts in person, no worries! You can also order online and ship toys directly to Spencer Hospital, 1200 First Ave E - Spencer, IA 51301. If you’d like to make a monetary donation, you can Venmo the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation @SRHF1993 or scan the QR code. Please note "Toy Drive" with your donation. A simple, small act of kindness can make a big difference. Caitlyn Barr, Junior Miss Clay County 2024, understands this and is striving to not only perform her own acts of kindness, but encourage others to join her in doing so as well. Her community service project for the Miss Iowa Youth Scholarship Program is called “Heart for Heart: Helping Others, Close Together or Far Apart.” To accomplish her service goals, Cait is busy with several projects, including the creation and distribution of “Smile Cards.” Earlier this spring she dropped a supply of Smile Cards off at Spencer Hospital, presenting them to Vice President of Nursing Jen Dau. The little business-sized cards can be shared with others and features a sweet verse: “Here is a smile from me to you to brighten up your day. It’s a simple gift; it didn’t cost much but has a lot to say. ‘You’re Amazing,’ ‘Keep Going,’ and ‘Thank You for Being You.'” A smile is a simple gesture and a meaningful thing to do. So keep this smile with you, in a pocket tucked away.
