Team members gathered at Corewell Health's Orthopedic Health & Performance Center in Grand Rapids to sign one of the last steel beams to be placed at the top of the structure - leaving a lasting mark on the new building. A construction tradition also took place - a tree and the American flag were raised with the beam. The tree represents celebrating the building's structure. “This will be a special place of healing and mobility. In addition to treating injuries and diseases, we will focus on prevention and performance optimization. Our goal will be to help people function at their very best. We are excited to offer this incredible resource to meet the needs of the community,” said Dr. Jason Slaikeu.

We are proud of the Corewell Health research team for winning a $400,000 grant from the American Heart Association. Led by primary investigator Jeremy Prokop, Ph.D., our team of clinicians and scientists, including Maximiliano Tamae Kakazu, M.D., Renzo Loyaga-Rendon, M.D., Ph.D., and Dave Chesla, Corewell Health senior director of research and development, is dedicated to the study of how differences in people’s cells impact illness and recovery from several cardiovascular diseases. Their project, entitled "Integrating response genetics into a clinical implementation model," aims to improve the health of individuals and populations through the Second Century Implementation Science Award. Congratulations to Chris Gunnink, RN, and Kolbi Flowers, supply chain materials coordinator, on receiving the DAISY and BEE Awards for providing exceptional care at Corewell Health's Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. "Chris was absolutely amazing; he went above and beyond to make our daughter laugh and feel comfortable. He was incredibly attentive to not only her needs but ours as parents. He spoke to us like we were part of the treatment team and ensured we had everything we needed well before discharge. He sincerely cared about our daughter and our family," Chris' nomination said. Thank you both for the commitment, compassion and talents you provide to your patients every day.
