The mission of Special Olympics Michigan is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the state of Michigan. Athletes are given continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness and athletic skill, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

Last week, 2,500 athletes from around the state gathered to compete in the 2024 State Summer Games and celebrate Special Olympics Michigan's 50th in-person competition on the campus of Central Michigan University. They were joined by thousands of coaches, volunteers, and fans for the event of the summer! Thank you to all who came out to support our largest event of the year and make this golden anniversary so memorable!

Special Olympics Young Athletes is an early childhood play program for children with and without intellectual disabilities, ages 2 to 7 years old. Young Athletes introduces basic sport skills, like running, kicking, and throwing. In a few short weeks, Special Olympics Michigan is offering Young Athletes at the 2024 Summer Games Young Athletes on May 31 and June 1 at Central Michigan University.
