It’s time for Spotlight Saturday! Meet Evan Jackson, our Video & Digital Content Producer. “A typical day at Sparx for me consists of making edits to various commercial projects and social videos, storyboarding for larger video shoots with some of our Sparx athletes, shooting interviews & B-roll content with the staff to utilize for promo content, and working with the rest of the marketing team to strategize social media posts and content.    I’ve been playing hockey since I was 6 years old. I started out in the Plymouth Youth program, then moved to Duxbury to their program. In middle school I played for the Bridgewater Bandits Bantam AA team for a few years, then went on to play for Duxbury High School until I was a Junior. After my Junior year, I played Junior hockey with the Boston Bandits in the Empire Junior Hockey League. In college, Quinnipiac University didn’t have a club team, so a few friends and I started a team, “The Brave Hockey Club” which competed in the ACHA DII. I played for the Brave for 3 years in college.    My favorite thing about working for Sparx is being a part of growing company that is creating an entirely new space for hockey players and the hockey community. It’s like being at the forefront of something that is going to be the standard in years to come.”

This weekend, thousands of youth hockey programs will start their 2024-25 seasons. We celebrate the Back To Hockey season by kicking off a unique campaign with PWHL Minnesota’s Taylor Heise and Brent Burns of the Carolina Hurricanes. “Don’t Waste The Effort” is a call to all those players who have worked so hard this offseason to go out and play their absolute best. Taylor Heise and Brent Burns are two incredible brand ambassadors and we are more than proud to have them as part of the Sparx Hockey family.

12 year old Danny was trying to raise money for his brother’s hockey team by selling ice cream on the sidewalk… unfortunately, his town’s health board shut it down. We were inspired by Danny’s story and decided to surprise him with a brand new Sparx sharpener! Keep trying to grow the game and do amazing things, Danny!

“Consistent, Easy Machine” “I get the same sharpen every time” “I wish I had it as a kid” “It makes me feel more confident on the ice” “I should have gotten it earlier!” Designing, developing and manufacturing the most innovative skate sharpening equipment in the game is far from easy but those long hours are all worth it when we hear the positive comments from our customers. From the highest-level professional athlete to the hockey mom or dad sharpening skates in their garage, we take great pride in knowing that we are helping change the game forever.

Since its inception, Sparx Hockey has prioritized working with and providing opportunities to young engineers. Founder & CEO Russell Layton, a Northeastern University alumnus, has collaborated closely with the Northeastern Engineering co-op program, offering experience to more than 15 co-op students over the years. Having been in their position, Russ understands the invaluable growth and learning such opportunities provide and is committed to extending these experiences to students every year. Engineering co-ops at Sparx Hockey gain diverse experiences, including research, design, prototyping, assembly, and testing. Students work alongside Sparx Hockey engineers on significant projects that meet real business needs. They are typically assigned a major project for the term as well as several smaller projects to develop their time management and multitasking skills. Sparx Hockey is proud to partner with the Northeastern co-op program and we are excited to have Isabella Pozzi, Ali Khamis and Victoria Postler as our latest co-ops.
