👩⚕️ Happy #MedicalAssistantsDay! Today, we recognize the thankless #HealthcareHeroes who continue to serve those in need. Their daily acts of care and service inspire us to take care of each other. If you know a medical assistant, show them your appreciation through an act of kindness. Amanda Ramirez is a Medical Coordinator at Casa Norma Linda. She shares, “As a medical assistant, what I value the most about my work is the experience that I get of caring and helping the young ones in need. It is very rewarding to me when I see that children are getting the service they need in difficult times. Mainly, it is amazing seeing that there is a whole organization willing to do the same!” 🩺 #MedicalAssistantsRecognition #MedicalAssistantsRecognitionDay

🇲🇽 #HispanicHeritageMonth: Priscilla Pedroza is the National Director for Home Study & Post Release. As a Mexican American who is proud of her culture, she has felt misunderstood at times. She elaborates, “I think there is a misconception of Mexican Americans that if we love and celebrate our culture that we do not appreciate or value our American culture. At times it feels like we are not accepted or considered ‘American’ nor ‘Mexican.’ However, we are fortunate to love, celebrate, and appreciate both cultures.” 🪇 For this reason, she is especially grateful to have the opportunity of Hispanic Heritage Month to celebrate her culture. Priscilla says, “It also gives our younger generations a chance to learn about our history and to celebrate our heritage.” 🙌 #HispanicHeritage #HHMonth #HispanicHeritageMonth2024

🏀 #HispanicHeritageMonth: As one of Southwest Key Programs’ esteemed community partners, Patricia Mejia is the Vice President of Inclusive Engagement for Spurs Sports & Entertainment. She ascribes her leadership style to her Hispanic values, saying, “One (value) I am most proud of: that nothing is ever done for self but instead the collective. How is what I am doing today benefiting others today and for our collective futures?” ✨ Patricia has looked to many Hispanic leaders for inspiration but mainly refers to two, including historian Dr. Antonia Castaneda and leader Andy Hernandez. Dr. Castaneda’s influence made her always ask questions and consider context in any situation. Once the president of the Southwest Voter Registration Education Process, Andy Hernandez was a major champion for Patricia. She shares, “He always reminds me of what a great privilege it is to work for justice.” Such inspirational figures make her realize the positive impact she can accomplish. Patricia shares, “There is so much to work to do to create the change needed for our community but there is so much be proud of, what I like to call finding our brown joy!” 🫶🏾 #HispanicHeritage #HHMonth #HispanicHeritageMonth2024

🌱 #HispanicHeritageMonth: Dr. Elizabeth Ortiz Mendez is the Project Director of the Refugee and Migrant Technical Assistance Center (#RMTAC). 🌎 She refers to her upbringing on a migrant farm camp as a pivotal experience, shaping her work ethic. Dr. Ortiz Mendez shares, “Strong and determined men and women in my family battled poverty, racism, and unequal pay. By working long, hard hours in the fields and migrating north in search of a better future, they laid the foundation for future generations to pursue their goals and aspirations. Witnessing their hard work and the value of education firsthand, I learned that perseverance and learning can lead to better opportunities.” 🧑🏽🌾 #HispanicHeritage #HHMonth #HispanicHeritageMonth2024

💫 #HispanicHeritageMonth: Victor R. Garza was an advocate for Hispanic Americans, veterans, and more. ✊🏽 In 1988, he founded the La Raza Roundtable, Santa Clara County’s largest coalition of Latino and Mexican American organizations. His career was full of accolades, from getting invited to the White House to numerous awards. 🏛️ In 2004, he joined Southwest Key’s Board of Directors where he served for 20 years, supporting unaccompanied children and offering guidance to everyone from the CEO to youth care workers. The Victor R. Garza Community Center in East #Austin continues to pay tribute to his many accomplishments, offering resources to local youth and families. 🌎 As we look to the lives of many historic Hispanic changemakers for Hispanic Heritage Month, Victor R. Garza’s impact on Hispanic communities uniquely inspires us. #HispanicHistory #HispanicHeritage #HHMonth #HispanicHeritageMonth2024
