We’re proud to see one of our own, Patrick Robbins, featured on billboards for SVCC’s Power Line Worker program! Patrick, a graduate of Cohort #4, is now a lineman at Southside Electric Cooperative, contributing to the reliable service our community depends on. SEC's partnership with Southside Virginia Community College helps build a pipeline of skilled professionals, ensuring we have a dedicated workforce to meet the challenges of maintaining and improving our electrical infrastructure. #PowerLineWorker #WorkforceDevelopment #CareersInEnergy https://lnkd.in/eFut9s8R

🌍 Cooperative Principle #6: Cooperation Among Cooperatives This foundational value emphasizes the power of collaboration between co-ops to strengthen the entire cooperative movement. A recent example of this is SEC sending a crew of 15 to North and South Carolina to provide mutual aid following the impacts of Hurricane Helene. By working together, cooperatives help each other overcome challenges, ensuring we continue to serve our members and communities when they need it most. 🤝 Together, we’re stronger. #MutualAid #HurricaneHelene
🚨Helene Update🚨 It's all hands on deck as restoration crews face immense challenges from Hurricane Helene. Even the president and CEO of Broad River Electric Cooperative is packing lunches for lineworkers and washing dishes. "He has set a real example of service over the past several days,” said the co-op's vice president of member services. ⚡ Stay Safe Around Downed Power Lines ⚡ While the remnants of Hurricane Helene moved through parts of Virginia, Southside Electric Cooperative has not experienced the scale of outages as in nearby states. However, we want to remind everyone about the dangers of downed power lines, which can occur in any severe weather event. ❗ Key safety tips: • Always assume a downed power line is live and dangerous, even if it appears inactive. • Keep at least 30 feet away, and ensure children and pets are also kept clear. • Avoid touching anything in contact with the line, including trees, vehicles, or fences. • Report it immediately to SEC at (866) 878-5514 or call 911. Even if you aren’t directly affected, knowing these safety precautions can save lives. #SafetyFirst #HereForYou #HurricaneHelene #ElectricalSafety #DownedPowerLines
