Updates

  • We had an excellent grand opening weekend at our newest location in Carthage: The Buggy Factory by Southern Pines Brewing Co. Southern Pines Brewing would like to extend a thank you to the Moore County Chamber of Commerce for letting us do not one, but two ribbon cuttings to include the Tyson & Jones bar downstairs. We couldn’t have pulled it all off without all of the incredible staff across our entire company. Cheers!

We recently celebrated two of our staff awarded as Dedman Leadership Fellows from Sandhills Community College's Dedman Leadership Institute for Business Leadership! Jerad Watlington says the course provided him with the opportunity to build relationships with new and emerging leaders across the community. "It eased my transition from the military into the civilian sector. I am grateful for the opportunity to grow with others as leaders!" Larissa Wixtrom says it taught her more about how leadership affects day-to-day lives. "It's all about people. There's multiple ways to manage but being a true leader is a different story. I have noticed that my confidence in leadership has naturally improved since taking this class," she says. Congrats Jerad and Larissa. We're proud to have employees and community leaders such as yourselves!

  • We’re proud to do what we do and according to you all, we’re doing something right! Untappd released its 2023 community awards where beers are rated from users when they “check in” while having a brew. We won awards in several categories and swept the Porter/Baltic category! We love making new creations and thank you all for supporting our beer and our mission. See what else placed in NC here:

  • Cam is the latest of our cellarman to complete the White Labs Yeast Essentials class! 👏🏼 Designed to teach yeast handling best practices and fermentation, we’re excited to put this knowledge to work! “I love the city of Asheville, and had a great time. I’m excited to incorporate the things I learned here at SPBC,” says Cam.

Day of Giving 2024! Last November, we collected warm clothing at Southern Pines Brewing Company and on Monday we worked alongside Stacey Buckner and dozens of volunteers to give these donations as well as shoes, hygiene packs, haircuts, food, and other resources to our neighbors in need in Fayetteville. I was there with my amazing husband Matthew Merriman, the newest Community Engagement Director with Team RWB Fayetteville! It was an honor to serve with these incredible people and so fun to see familiar faces from last year’s event!

  • We had the opportunity to send our head mixologist, Mardy Berlinger, to the European Bartender School in London for a two-week course. In her class of seven, she was the only American and ended up tying for second place in the cocktail creation competition day. "It was so cool to have the cultural exchange and see what people were doing Internationally," she says. Mardy has been bartending for 10 years. She joined the SPBC team to help design cocktail menus for our future locations and to help oversee the Southern Pines Spirits ready-to-drink canned cocktails program. Mardy says the course helped open her eyes to everything bartending could be. She learned techniques such as infusing liquors, ice carving and processing syrups. The course also focused on sustainability, which we are excited to incorporate more of in the brewery as we expand. Mardy learned many skills to maximize ingredient use and create less waste. Go Mardy! We can’t wait to taste more of your creations!

We don't know where we'd be without our team and we aim to highlight their work and accomplishments as much as possible. Kenzie Sharrow, Director of Service and Hospitality, recently attended the EHL Hospitality Business School. EHL Hospitality Business School is considered one of the best hospitality schools in the world. "I attended EHL Hospitality Business School in Switzerland at the Campus Lausanne, for their executive education course on Designing Hotel and Restaurant Concepts, which was taught by Youri Sawerschel, Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Creative Supply. I'll be going back in May to attend another executive course and plan on applying for their MBA in Hospitality, in May as well!" Kenzie began at Southern Pines Brewing Company as a bartender and has since managed two taprooms and community events before stepping into her current role. She decided to pursue this professional development to be the best she could, especially as we expand into more locations. "I decided to pursue professional development for a few reasons. One, so I could help the brewery grow competitively through learning and leveraging international industry best practices. Second, to continue my growth as a leader and better empower the people around me. Lastly, to set an example of the pursuit of life-long learning for my kids." "It was really eye opening how that class approached new ideas," she says, "You're not just creating another pizza joint, or in our case, a brewery. The whole philosophy is to create an experience." We are eager to see how Kenzie continues to build community and an experience within our taprooms.
