  • My name is Colin Robinson. I am a registered cardiac invasive specialist (RCIS) at Southern NH Medical Center. A cardiac invasive specialist or cath lab technologist plays an important role in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular conditions. We work primarily in catheterization labs, where we assist cardiologists during complex procedures such as angioplasties, stent placements, and electrophysiology studies. When patients arrive at the cath lab with an acute heart attack, we are able to restore flow, and they can typically go home in a day or two, pain-free! Our responsibilities include preparing and sterilizing the equipment, setting up the procedure room, and ensuring all necessary instruments are available. During procedures, we monitor the patient’s vital signs, administer contrast media, and operate imaging equipment, keeping the radiation dose as low as possible, to provide real-time visualization of the heart and blood vessels. We also assist in inserting and manipulating catheters, guidewires, and other devices used to treat blockages or abnormalities. Post-procedure, we are responsible for patient care, including monitoring recovery and managing any complications. The role demands high technical expertise, precision, and the ability to work under pressure. It also requires strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with the medical team and support patients through critical and often life-saving interventions. I became an invasive cardiac specialist because it provides a hands-on approach to patient care. I love it because it allows me to make a difference in patients’ lives and my community. In many of our procedures, we see an immediate, visible difference in our patients' comfort and condition.

  • Oscar has dedicated over a decade to Southern NH Medical Center and the last five in Patient Family Services as a medical interpreter. As part of the interpreter team, Oscar ensures smooth communication between patients and providers, making sure everyone gets their point across clearly, no matter what language they speak. "It's all about ensuring every patient receives the best care possible, and we're here to make sure language is never a barrier to that," he says. "For patients, we're their language lifeline, turning medical talk into clear, accurate information about their health, making them feel safe and cared for. For medical staff, we bridge the communication gap, improving overall care quality. We foster inclusivity, creating a connected community where everyone gets the healthcare they deserve." Drawn to interpretation by his faith and a strong sense of calling to serve others, Oscar's work at Southern NH Medical Center allows him to "live out my values by supporting those in need, showing compassion, and making a difference in people's lives." Oscar also loves participating in community service events and is an active member of the International WeLoveU Foundation, contributing to various meaningful projects. We are profoundly grateful for Oscar and his unwavering commitment to our community.

  • My name is Kristal Brotherton. I am a certified cardiac technician and electrocardiogram (EKG) technician at Southern NH Medical Center. Cardiac technicians play a key role in cardiac care. We specialize in interpreting heart rhythms, monitoring patients during exercise stress, and performing pharmacological testing. It is our job to ensure the patient's heart rhythm, rate, and blood pressure are within a safe range throughout the test. As an EKG tech, I also place heart monitors, which record patient heart rhythms that we can interpret. EKGs are essential for diagnosing various heart conditions, such as arrhythmias, heart attacks, and other cardiac abnormalities. Both roles demand strong attention to detail, technical proficiency, and excellent interpersonal skills. We work closely as a team with nurses, sonographers, and physicians. I became a certified cardiac technician because my daughter was diagnosed with a heart condition at an early age, and I wanted to learn more about it. I love it because I find the rhythms fascinating. I love meeting all the different patients and hearing their stories.

  • Meet Linda Doyle, a health unit coordinator in the Emergency Department since August 1985. Linda’s role involves managing a variety of tasks, from answering phones and performing computer work to handling the non-clinical aspects of traumas, strokes, and STEMIs. Her versatility and willingness to assist wherever needed, including transporting patients, highlight her commitment to supporting the team and ensuring smooth operations within the department. Linda’s connection to Southern NH Medical Center (SNHMC) runs deep. Born at this very hospital, she later volunteered as a candy striper and has seen all four of her children born here as well. Over the years, she has built strong relationships with patients and their families, aiming to make their experience as comfortable as possible. The sense of community and the lasting friendships with her co-workers and patients are what keep her dedicated to SNHMC. Outside of work, Linda enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and traveling, enriching her life with new experiences and cherished moments. Thank you, Linda, for being a foundational part of our community. Your dedication and compassion have made a lasting impact on countless lives, and we are grateful for you.

  • My name is Dr. Robert Catania. I am a bariatric surgeon with Southern NH Weight Management. Bariatric surgeons work to address the complex and often life-altering disease of obesity. We are experts in performing surgical procedures aimed at facilitating weight loss and improving the overall health and quality of life for individuals struggling with severe obesity. Beyond just surgical skills, we understand the physiological and psychological factors underlying obesity, allowing us to tailor treatment plans to each patient's unique needs. We know that surgical interventions can lead to significant weight loss, resolution of obesity-related conditions like diabetes and hypertension, and, ultimately, a renewed sense of vitality and well-being for our patients. Our role extends far beyond the operating room; we serve as educators, advocates, and partners in their patients' journey toward sustainable weight management and improved health. It is our goal to create a pathway to a healthier future for every patient. I became a bariatric surgeon by accident. While enrolled in a minimally invasive surgery fellowship to learn advanced laparoscopic surgical skills, part of my training included bariatric surgery. Although bariatric surgical procedures had been performed with open surgery for many years by then, the introduction of minimally invasive surgery for weight loss was still relatively new. The dramatic improvement in the health and well-being that bariatric surgical patients were experiencing was remarkable, and I became very interested in the disease of obesity. The more I learned, the more I wanted to know. As I spent more of my professional life caring for patients with obesity, I decided I wanted to help create a center that provided comprehensive care for my patients. By partnering with Foundation Medical Associates and Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, we were able to bring together a great group of medical professionals who shared the same passion for obesity care. Now, I get to go to work every day to help patients with obesity and to work with others who share my enthusiasm about the care we provide.
