It was an honor to be the keynote speaker for SourceAmerica and to create this video saluting their mission! Too often people with disabilities are overlooked when it comes to employment opportunities. Many employers are not aware of the large number of well qualified, hardworking people with disabilities who can and will fill these open positions. SourceAmerica is a nonprofit organization that works with over 500 partner organizations to help tens of thousands of these determined individuals find jobs. Workers from all walks of life. Everyone from veterans with PTSD to individuals with cognitive and physical disabilities. Good on you SourceAmerica, good on you! #disability #inclusion #acceptance #DisabilityEmployment #IAmSomebody #DisabilityAdvocacy

"Having a disability, it's not even a matter of 'we want special consideration,' we just want the chance to sink or swim on our own." Lori White, a steadfast advocate and winner of the 2018 Tom Miller Advocacy Award, attended our Grassroots Advocacy Conference a few years ago. Lori actually experienced a flare-up of her own disability while at the conference, but her determination wasn’t shaken. She recovered and attended the rest of the conference so she could share her story with legislators! Learn more about her story here: https://lnkd.in/e65KwA9X #50YearsOfStories #DisabilityEmployment

We’re so proud of the accomplishments of self-advocates like Ruth this week at Grassroots! Thanks for sharing, Didlake. #DisabilityEmployment #IAmSomebody
This week, Didlake Vice President of Advocacy and Policy Rachel Payne is attending the SourceAmerica Grassroots Advocacy Conference, alongside Lead Worker Janitor Ruth Bray, a Didlake employee of 20 years working through the AbilityOne Program, and Ruth's daughter. The annual conference brings together self-advocates, their families and employers to share their employment stories and advocate for opportunities for people with disabilities across the country. The conference kicked off on Monday with a dynamic keynote by Abigail the Advocate, a motivational speaker, athlete, model and actress who has Down syndrome. Tuesday was a busy day of training to prepare for Congressional meetings followed by the Celebration of Stories, when advocates take the stage and share their employment stories. "My story was I came out of substance abuse years ago and because of the AbilityOne Program, I was able to turn my life around. I'm at 20-plus years drug-free. This program impacted my life and made possibilities turn into realities," Ruth said. Watch for updates as we follow Ruth and Rachel around Capitol Hill over the next two days, advocating for people with disabilities alongside other grassroots advocacy teams. #SourceAmerica #DisabilityAdvocacy #DisabilityEmployment
