🌟 We are delighted to welcome The Cyprus Institute as the newest partner in the SOLARX EU project consortium! 🌍 The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a world-class, non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation. ☀ CyI’s participation aligns perfectly with our goals to push the boundaries of solar technology and address the pressing energy needs of our time. In the SOLARX project, they will work on package 8 which focuses on the design, optimization, implementation and demonstration at TRL4, of an airborne light collection and concentration heliostat field monitoring system. Their involvement will enhance our collaborative efforts to improve the efficiency, sustainability, and integration of solar energy systems across the continent. 🇪🇺 Thanks to the Hop On Facility scheme, this collaboration aims to improve the inclusiveness of Horizon Europe by involving more research institutions from Widening countries in collaborative projects. ☀ Today, we want to highlight Maitane Ferreres Eceiza activity in SOLARX EU project, who is making great contributions by applying her knowledge as PhD student at Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme ISE. ☀☀ Maitane is working to develop a Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI) #nowcastingsystem that uses real-time DNI measurements, sky imager and satellite data to #forecast up to one hour ahead. 📒 Did you know that unlike solar and wind power, which rely on specific weather conditions, molten salt facilities can generate and store energy for up to 10 hours, operating anytime? ♻ Our partner EMD International A/S has recently created a model of this process in #energyPRO. The model allowed us to see the operation income, amount of electricity generated by specific units, storage capacity as well as CSP consumption. ☀ In SOLARX, we use energyPRO for #modelling and #sizing the heliostat field and the three types of receivers for #CSP: PV-production, hydrogen production and thermal heat production (for heating molten salt). 🌟 Exciting News from SOLARX Project! 🌟 ☀ Alicia Crespo Gutiérrez (from Universitat de Lleida, Escola Politècnica Superior UdL) had the opportunity to present preliminary results of the performance of #SOLARXsystem during the European Hydrogen Energy Conference (EHEC) 2024. Alicia presented a comparison in terms of levelized cost of electricity (#LCOE) and Cost of Valued Energy (#COVE) versus a concentrating solar power plant and a photovoltaic plant. 🎯The #EHEC2024 took place in Bilbao on 6, 7 and 8 March 2024 and is Europe’s conference of reference in the hydrogen sector.
