About us
The Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) is a supportive community of marketing and business development professionals. The Seattle Chapter has been helping Puget Sound Region marketers and business developers succeed in the architecture, engineering and construction industries (A/E/C) since 1983. With 300 members, it is currently the third largest chapter in the nation. In 2015, SMPS National awarded the Seattle Chapter first place in the 'Striving for Excellence' Extra-Large Chapter category, in recogntion of excellence in their management and service to members. Members and Non-Members alike benefit from the vast amount of educational, networking and scholarship programs SMPS Seattle offers. The chapter is a vibrant and powerful network for A/E/C professionals at all stages of their careers. Nationally, SMPS began in 1973 when a small group of professional service firm leaders recognized a need to sharpen their skills, pool resources, and work together to help tackle the complexities of marketing in a time when marketing was barely acknowledged as a significant component of professional service firms. Today, SMPS has more than 6,500 members who are active in 60 chapters across the United States and Canada. It is the only non-profit marketing organization dedicated to creating business opportunities and enhancing the careers of marketing professionals in the A/E/C industries.

One of the benefits of being a member of SMPS Seattle is our MULTIPLY Mentorship program. We recently had a mid-program meet up to be together in person and to share lessons learned. This is my first year as a co-chair for the program with Liz Wasson Coleman, CPSM . I’m happy we had such an awesome turnout and were able to share many great ideas. Looking forward to finishing up this year and growing the program next year! Thanks to everyone who participated! https://lnkd.in/gvMNrkUH

Meet the 2024-25 Board: Ranjana Sterling, Past-President 🍷 How long have you been a part of SMPS, and what committee(s) have you been involved in? I joined SMPS Seattle in 2018, stepping into my first luncheon knowing only my director. Fast forward six years, and I've had the privilege of serving on the board in various capacities, including Director of Special Events during the challenging COVID years, Secretary, President-Elect, and President. My involvement has also extended beyond the board—I've volunteered on the Special Events Committee, co-facilitated the Eastside Roundtable alongside the amazing Allina Hakim, and contributed to the national SMPS 50th Anniversary planning committee. What do you hope to accomplish during your year on the board? As Past-President, my primary goal this year is to provide continuity and support to Bill Michie and the rest of the board as they advance our strategic initiatives. I want to leverage my five previous years of experience on the board to work with emerging leaders within our chapter, ensuring they feel empowered and prepared to take on new challenges. By working together, we can create a more resilient, inclusive, and forward-thinking SMPS Seattle, where every member feels valued and inspired to contribute. What types of volunteers does our chapter need? SMPS Seattle is a volunteer-run organization that thrives on collaboration. We welcome all who are willing to contribute. Whether you're interested in joining a committee or writing a blog, we're here to help you find an opportunity that aligns with your time commitment, passions, and professional goals. 🤓 Three words to describe you! CrazySexyCool - wait, that's a TLC album 🎶 Hmmm. Forward-thinking. Tenacious. Culturally aware. You can meet Ranjana, the rest of the board members, and network with other SMPS Seattle members and future members at our kickoff TONIGHT! Join us today from 5:30–7:30pm at P2S to celebrate our annual leadership transitions, learn about how you can engage with your chapter, and hear about the exciting events planned for the upcoming year. It's not too late to sign up! ALL are welcome to walk-in to our first FREE event of the year! Meet the 2024-25 Board: Kayla Snider, Treasurer ⛰ How long have you been a part of SMPS, and what committee(s) have you been involved in? I first joined SMPS in 2020 but was unable to fully take advantage of my membership until I moved to Seattle in 2021. Since then, I have been chiefly involved in the Treasury Committee and have also participated in the MULTIPLY mentorship program. What do you hope to accomplish during your year on the board? I ultimately hope to serve as a resource and strategist for my fellow committees in their goals for this year. I aim to produce collaborative and inventive solutions to challenges committees may face regarding budgeting and funding initiatives/events. What types of volunteers does your committee need? We are a lean and nimble team with needs geared toward maintenance more so than campaigned efforts. If you're a member looking for a light load that makes a BIG difference, come talk to Ka$h Kayla! 🤑 Three words to describe you! Warm, engaging, discerning. You can meet Kayla, the rest of the board members, and network with other SMPS Seattle members and future members at our kickoff TOMORROW! Join us on September 12, from 5:30–7:30pm, at P2S to celebrate our annual leadership transitions, learn about how you can engage with your chapter, and hear about the exciting events planned for the upcoming year. Meet the 2024-25 Board: Cate O'Toole, Director at Large: Membership 😎 How long have you been a part of SMPS, and what committee(s) have you been involved in? I joined SMPS in 2017, and in 2019 decided to get more involved with the Seattle chapter. I joined the Membership Committee and I’ve never looked back! What do you hope to accomplish during your year on the board? Our chapter is lucky to have a big, active membership base, but that doesn’t happen by accident. I’m excited to engage with members across the chapter and continue to help everyone get the most out of their membership benefits, make connections, and support the incredible community that makes this chapter so dynamic 💥 What types of volunteers does your committee need? Membership is a small but mighty committee doing a lot of great work on behalf of SMPS Seattle members. We have a number of ongoing initiatives that volunteers could plug into, from welcoming new members to supporting registration at chapter events to liaising with the DEI Committee. It’s a great opportunity for folks who want to meet people across the chapter in an easy, low-key way that doesn’t feel like networking. Three words to describe you! Creative, organized, steady. You can meet Cate, the rest of the board members, and network with other SMPS Seattle members and future members at our kickoff in TWO DAYS! Join us on September 12, from 5:30–7:30pm, at P2S to celebrate our annual leadership transitions, learn about how you can engage with your chapter, and hear about the exciting events planned for the upcoming year.
