  • 🔥Another Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is in the books! This morning, Team SMPD was joined by members of the North County Regional (NCR) SWAT Team, as we ran the Flame of Hope though San Mateo from the Burlingame border to the Belmont border, as it makes its way to the Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games in Santa Clara. This annual event raises awareness, as well as funds, to support Special Olympians participating in the games. A longtime supporter, our agency is proud to show our continued support and is grateful to NCR for joining us, especially when their own agencies participated in their own cities as well. We wish the best of luck to all Olympians🏅!

  • 31 agencies (totaling 48 teams) from across the country sent their Police Explorers to Las Vegas this weekend to participate in the annual EXCON Explorer Challenge, and we were one of them. Sending two teams, our Explorers participated in several graded police scenarios yesterday, as well as an Honor Guard detail and Range testing. For months the teams and their Explorer Advisors prepared and trained for this challenge. Today we learned how they did. We are proud to announce our team brought home trophies for 3 scenarios. They placed 🥉 in the Honor Guard detail, 🥈 in “Suspicious Situation”, and 🥉in CSI. We are so proud of how they did, as this is their second year participating, and continued to match the success they had last year. Their success is a testament to the amount of time and effort they put in and the dedication of all involved. 🏆 San Mateo PAL

  • Our Police Explorers, several Advisors, and Chief Ed Barberini M.P.A., M.A. ventured to Las Vegas yesterday, where two teams from our POST 211 are participating in the EXCON Competition. Today, they will be competing against other Explorer teams from around the nation in law enforcement scenarios. Last year they brought home three awards, so we have high hopes again this year. Please send them good vibes as they endure the Las Vegas heat and the stress of competition. San Mateo PAL
