Yesterday, January 23, 2024, marked a monumental day for Valley Youth House as we celebrated the groundbreaking of the Carter Family Center at Camp Fowler. This state-of-the-art, 5,000-square-foot recreation and education center is a dream turning into reality, thanks to the collaborative efforts of many. The Carter Family Center, named in honor of a generous lead gift from Tammy Carter, will enrich campers' experiences by providing indoor, year-round spaces for diverse educational programs. Featuring the Schamberger STEM Lab and an Arts Lab, the center promises to be a hub of learning and creativity. With additional facilities like a camp coordinator's office, break room, and storage space, it's set to enhance our extensive programming at Camp Fowler. As Tom Harrington, our President & Executive Director, says, “The Carter Family Center will allow us to work with groups of children, including local school groups, church groups, and Scout troops, providing exciting educational programs.” Special thanks to our construction management partner, Penntex Construction, and President Jim Hoolehan, for their invaluable contribution and oversight. Our executive planning committee, generous donors, and contributors have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life. And no event at Camp Fowler would be complete without Mrs. Pennsylvania America and camper alumni, Chaunice Holley!
