🍎 Slow Food Russian River’s Community Apple Press is up and running! Sebastopol Times reporter Ezra Wallach wrote all about this event and the significance of the #ArkOfTaste darling Sebastopol Gravenstein Apple. Read: https://lnkd.in/gPGEq9tU "Situated on the grounds of the Luther Burbank Experiment Farm, their simple, timeless and efficient machine offers a free opportunity for residents living anywhere in the region to squeeze their own apples into fresh juice. Following their appearance at the Gravenstein Apple Fair this coming weekend, Bob Burke will be leading the press operation, which he says was, for a decade, the only community-oriented press of its kind in the entire country before Petaluma Bounty added one of their own a couple of years ago. A group of SFRR volunteers, which features a rotating cast of over 70 people, will operate the press on Saturdays and Sundays. Wanna-be juice makers can make a reservation for a 20-minute time slot. Each group can bring as many as 100 pounds of apples, although Burke’s team said that anything less than 150 pounds should be fine."

⚡️ BIG NEWS: The Domestic Seafood Production Act was introduced in the House of Representatives on July 30 by Representatives Mary Peltola of Alaska and Troy Carter of New Orleans, LA. 🐟️ Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gE3hR-kS DSPA would fund community development projects to support seafood and mariculture processing. It focuses on uplifting low-income communities and seafood practices that benefit local fishing and mariculture producers. The Act also aims to protect the health of our oceans. It does this by prohibiting Federal agencies from permitting, authorizing or facilitating offshore aquaculture in U.S. Federal waters without an act of Congress. Slow Food USA has long advocated for DSPA and now hopes for a surge of co-signers and support from members of Congress. Powering up smaller-scale seafood harvesters and producers allows us to get leagues closer to good, clean and fair food for all. Stay tuned for next steps and opportunities to influence the passage of this landmark bill! 🌊 Many thanks to the Don't Cage Our Oceans coalition for years of hard work to bring this legislation to the surface.

🏆️ Snail of Approval is like the Olympics for food: it's an award that recognizes the best of the best when it comes to sustainable and community-centered food businesses. But how do our chapters evaluate and select the Snail of Approval awardees in their areas? Writer Robin Mosley connected with chapter leaders from Slow Food Vegas, Olympia and Sonoma County (and a Snail of Approval awardee) to understand the processes and considerations that ground their awarding work. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/g2_s3VqU "We’ve had a couple restaurant owners from other places around the country come in and see [our Snail of Approval award] and say, ‘Oh, I’ve been thinking of applying, should I do it?’ It’s like, yes, absolutely.” — Dani Garcia-White, co-owner of Yukon Pizza, a Snail of Approval awardee #SnailOfApproval

Good, clean and fair food for all starts with ensuring our newest generations have access to the resources they need. 👩👩👧👦 That's why it's so important to support the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act (H.R. 7024), a vital step in expanding and enhancing the Child Tax Credit (CTC) and addressing our nation's child hunger crisis. Under the House-passed bill, approximately 16 million out of the 19 million children currently left out of the Child Tax Credit will benefit, and an estimated 400,000 children and their families will be lifted above the poverty line, according to estimates from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Please contact your Senators today using FRAC's simple form, and make sure they know this is a Slow Food priority! Take action here: https://lnkd.in/g5gzb6r2 #foodjustice #goodcleanfair
