Donavan has been with the team since August 2023, and is responsible for processing data from different exchanges, increasing market response times, and generally looking for innovative ways to improve our overall systems using FPGA technology. Learn more about Donavan below: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱? Everything I have learned about system and hardware design applies to what I do at Simplex with a different twist. Every job before this one has been about throughput of a design, where at Simplex we are more concerned about latency. With low latency as the goal, it allows me to take my hardware engineering skills and push them to their limits. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐛? 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱? Being able to work on the biggest markets in the world and have your impacts be shown in a matter of days instead of months or years is an incredible feedback loop. Another thing I love is that Simplex really fosters an environment for innovation. I am allowed to look for interesting problems and really drive how I want to design around those problems. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮? I actually have a pretty big background in robotics. My early years in college I took part in a competition called RoboMasters doing microcontroller programming. Later for my capstone, I did the mechanical engineering for a farming robot that was strong enough to pull me around campus in a wagon. 𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝). Some people may not think of it as a big accomplishment, but as a first generation college student I am extremely proud I was able to complete a masters degree in electrical engineering. That passion and drive in hardware engineering, as well as the support from Scott Hauck and ACME labs at the University of Washington, pushed me to get a masters degree with a thesis for work with the Large Hadron Collider. All of this is the ground work that got me to where I am today. #MeetSimplex

Learn more about Nicolas below:   𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱? With my previous software experience in the computer graphics field, I learned very quickly that communication with everyone that's impacted by the work one does is crucial, as that affects the direction the future work effort will go. At Simplex, this need for communication is just as important; feedback from our traders and users about the software they use allows me to deliver performant apps and new app capabilities.    𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐛? The openness of the work culture here is fantastic; I can go ahead and ask anyone about the projects they work on when I want to learn how or why we tackle a particular task the way we do.
