Senator Niezgodski discussed the ongoing problems with the Medicaid Waiver Waitlist and allowed staff, residents, and family's voices to be heard. Silver Birch has been growing! Please join us as we Celebrate some of the newest additions to our 🌟 rockstar 🌟 Silver Birch Living team! Diane Simpson joined the SBL team this year as our Director of Reimbursement & Treasury! We chatted with Diane and asked her some questions to get to know her a little better and find out what this role means to her. ⭐️Why do I go to work every day? I have a passion for senior Assisted Living and I enjoy working hard to ensure the lives of our residents are improved daily. I have always realized the importance of the impact you can make in a resident’s life within these communities, and I have always thought of my roles as a lifestyle, not a job! ⭐️How did I get here? Twenty years ago, I started my career in Supportive Living as a Business Office Manager. Throughout my career, I have taken on several different roles at the community level, including as an Executive Director. I was an Executive Director for 15 years and I'm proud of all of the meaningful relationships with my residents and their families I was able to develop in that time. I also gained lots of invaluable experience along the way! Prior to coming to Silver Birch, I was a Financial Controller for a commercial excavating company. I was able to gain lots of experience in that role, especially within Treasury Management. The ownership there had wonderful values and beliefs, but ultimately my heart and passion led me back to senior healthcare! ⭐️Why do I care about this industry? I care about this industry because it works to ensure that our vulnerable senior population is cared for appropriately and with love. ⭐️Who I really am... I am married with a 10-year-old son and 2 stepsons. I enjoy spending time with my family and playing golf! I am Board President of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for children that have been abused and neglected within my local surrounding counties, as that's something that's very important to me. 💙 Thanks so much for sharing, Diane! Teresa Hasler recently joined the SBL team as one of our Regional Directors of Clinical Services! We asked Teresa some questions to get to know her better and find out what this role means to her. ⭐️Why do I go to work every day? I go to work everyday to make a positive impact on my colleagues and the population we serve. I love putting a smile on someone’s face even if it is through simply a “good morning” or a smile! I believe in the immense power of small, daily interactions, and by working in this field I am given the opportunity to wield that power for good every single day. I am excited to work in this new role so that I can continue my mission of empowerment on a wider scale! ⭐️How did I get here? I started in healthcare as CNA over 30 years ago. After obtaining my nursing license, my career path took me through various settings including home-health, acute care, private practice, social services, and skilled nursing. In all of my roles, I enjoyed learning new skills, being part of a team, and supporting others, however I have most enjoyed my time serving the senior population. When Assisted Living communities entered the market, I was excited that relatively independent seniors would have safe housing with their medical needs met. I have come to relish the relationship that can grow in this unique type of healthcare setting, and I am eager to continue serving this population in a management role that fosters my own growth and allows me to empower my colleagues. ⭐️Why do I care about this industry? During my time in the healthcare industry, I have seen seniors face continuous challenges as their bodies progress through the natural cycle of life. It is our duty to ensure respectful, comprehensive care during this time. A surrender of dignity and safety should not be the price anyone pays for aging. Our work provides safe, affordable homes with all of the necessities to our residents - medical care, transportation, and community - all while fostering their autonomy. ⭐️Who I really am... Outside of work, I spend my time with my family and my 88-year old mother, traveling to see my daughter on whatever her newest adventure is, and snuggling with my disturbingly large cat while binge-watching reality TV! I like to spend my days off relaxing outside at my home in Linton, Indiana. 💙 Thanks so much for sharing, Teresa!
