About us

The Silicon Valley Study Tour aims to create a bridge between young graduates, researchers, business angels, “start-uppers”, managers and entrepreneurs with the many successful Italian and Italian American high tech, biotech and venture capital executives in Silicon Valley. The tour consists in seminars held by top managers of startups and companies of the Silicon Valley, in order to make the graduated students and students aware of the entrepreneurial reality of the Valley. The SVST can count on more than 700 alumni. Some spin off on the SVST are: aizoOn by Franco Cornagliotto, Innovaction Lab accelerator in Rome founded by Carlo Alberto Pratesi and partners after SVST 2007 and 2008, The Hub Milan by Nicolò Borghi and partners (today Impact Hub), The Hub Rovereto by Jari Ognibeni, Tensive founded by Alessandro Tocchio after his SVST 2011 attendance, GES- Genoa Entrepreneurship School by Guglielmo Schenardi SVST 2019 Alumnus . All above inspired by the SVST attendance.     Chapter 17: "Davide Rovera" Davide Rovera was a Management Engineering student at Politecnico di Torino when he was selected to attend the Silicon Valley Study Tour, in August 2011 Thanks to the SVST, Davide found an internship at I3P - Innovative Companies Incubator of Politecnico Torino in Turin and later in San Francisco in a start-up, Vivocha Davide continued to grow professionally in CNH and Esade & Law School in Barcelona. Today he is eWorks Venture Creation Manager at Esade Business School as well as the General Partner Kili Ventures The Silicon Valley Study Tour “Give Back” came when Davide wanted to organize a Tour in Silicon Valley for his 62 Esade students from 30 Countries: the SVST for Esade students was held in January 2018, guided by our brilliant Alumni SVST 2017 Stefania Tibiletti and Alberto Conte

  • For the webinar in collaboration with Lead The Future Mentorship, INNOVIT - Italian Innovation and Culture Hub, ITA - Italian Trade Agency and Silicon Valley Fellowship, Francesco Lescai will share his experience as an Associate Professor of Bioinformatics, Computational Genomics Laboratory. Francesco is a Medical Biotechnologist with expertise in statistical genetics and computational biology. He is an Associate Professor of Bioinformatics at the Università degli Studi di Pavia where he leads the Computational Genomics Laboratory. Francesco has a broad range of experiences in academia and industry. He has worked at UCL in UK, in Denmark at Aarhus University first and then in QIAGEN Digital Insight, and finally again in UK for the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency before moving to Pavia. Francesco is always eager to build projects in his areas of expertise and is dedicated to advancing precision medicine and public health. He has contributed to science policy expert groups and participated in initiatives for responsible innovation.   • Chapter 16: "Steve Blank" The Silicon Valley Study Tour 2010 attendees were thrilled on August 31st, 2010 when they could have a reserved talk by Steve Blank in Palo Alto 💪 Steve co-created the Lean Startup movement and has been part of or co-founded eight Silicon Valley startups. These have run the gamut from semiconductors, video games, personal computers, and supercomputers (MIPS, Zilog, Rocket Science, SuperMac, Convergent Technologies, Ardent, ESL) 🚀 His article on the Lean Startup was the cover story of the May 2013 Harvard Business Review. He has been a Commencement speaker at:  - U.C. Santa Cruz in 2019  - Dalhousie University in 2017  - NYU in 2016  - ESADE Business School in Barcelona in 2014  - University of Minnesota in 2013  - Philadelphia University in 2011

  • Chapter 15: "Loris Degioanni" Today we present our host: Loris Degioanni 💡 Loris was a speaker and Mentor of SVST in 2010, at the Italian Consulate of San Francisco His brilliant entrepreneurship career exploded with the foundation of Sysdig in July 2013, and 11 years later, it is a Unicorn. From the SVST of 2013 and 2014, he hired three brilliant young Alumni: Alessandro Gallotta, Luca Marturana, and Andrea Scianò (who still works at Sysdig today, remotely from Turin). Moreover, the team was joined by a fourth brilliant SVST Alumnus 2013, Giulio Puri, who joined Sysdig in May 2021 🚀

    Chapter 14: "Marco Marini" Today we tell you the story of Marco Marini and how, together with SVST, he enabled a young man, Stefano Pistillo, to be selected for an internship at ClickMail Marketing. It all began in 2009 when Marco met Paolo Marenco at the National Italian American Foundation Gala in Washington. From that meeting, the opportunity arose for Stefano Pistillo, who, after the internship, was hired by Marco, becoming a pillar of the company both in Silicon Valley and in Italy, for 11 years running, up to 2022 📈 With 25 years in business, Marco is a "walking encyclopedia" of all things email: best practices, technologies, trends, and more. Marco is currently the COO of iPost, a revolutionary email platform built for marketers by marketers, and today he lives in Silicon Valley with his wife and their four children. In his "free" time, he enjoys buying and selling vintage Italian sports cars 🏙

    Chapter 13: “Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli” Today we are pleased to present Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli that hosted the SVST since the 2008. He holds the The Edgar L. and Harold H. Buttner Chair, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, at University of California, Berkeley Alberto is skilled in product development, research, and technical sales with experience across Europe, India Singapore, and the US. He co-founded Cadence and Synopsys, the two largest EDA companies with market cap in the range of 160Billion USD.  He is passionate about entrepreneurship, startups, leadership, and mentoring young talents. Highly skilled in business administration, consulting, and research (R&D) he is focused on delivering value to people, technology, and society He graduated in Electrical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 1971. He is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering and of the Academy of Arts and Sciences. He holds an Honorary Doctorate from KTH Royal Institute of Technology,  Aalborg University, Università di Roma, Tor Vergata, and AGH, Krakow. An ACM and IEEE Fellow, he is the recipient of the 2023 BBVA Frontiers of Knowledge Award in the category of Information and Communication Technology and of the IEEE/RSE Maxwell medal.

Alessandro has a degree in Computer Science Engineering from Politecnico di Milano and several international experiences, both for study and work purposes. He speaks Mandarin, English, and Italian and knows Python and C . After an exchange program at Tongji University in Beijing, he co-founded ForeignBridge, a mobile application to help young foreigners find jobs in China, addressing cultural and communication barriers. He then worked as the CTO of another startup, AnyHelper International, before returning to Europe to work for J.P. Morgan Morgan and Facebook in London.     Chapter 12: "Jeff Cabili” Today we would like to introduce a special host, Jeff Cabili, who has been hosting the young entrepreneur-minded students of SVST since 2008, every year until today 🚀 During each tour, he passionately and engagingly told the history of Stanford University, a significant part of the Silicon Valley Ecosystem. We want to emphasize his dedication to helping new entrepreneur-oriented generations discover the Silicon Valley mindset and interactions between ecosystems, including universities such as Stanford or UC Berkeley
