Our Chicago office recently hosted 18 scholars for the 17th Sidley Scholars Seminar. Scholars from 14 states had the opportunity to gain insights on first-year law school courses and meet with a member of the federal judiciary. Since its inception in 2006, the Sidley Prelaw Scholars Program has supported more than 550 students in their quest to attend law school. The program—a first among law firms—aims to increase access to the legal profession by subsidizing LSAT prep courses and law school application fees for high-performing college students. In connection with the 2023 Ebix Chapter 11 filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, Sidley secured approval of an amended disclosure statement that contemplates a plan of reorganization of the company by a Plan Sponsor pursuant to the terms of a Plan Sponsor Agreement. Sidley was part of a team that secured a significant Supreme Court victory on behalf of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) and the American Petroleum Institute (API) when #SCOTUS blocked the latest rule by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) implementing the Good Neighbor Provision of the Clean Air Act. The decision is a major win for our clients and the other state and industry petitioners – which now will not need to incur the significant costs of complying with the rule unless and until the rule is determined to be lawful. Sidley represented the City of Jacksonville, Florida in its negotiations with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars on a US$1.4 billion stadium renovation of EverBank Stadium and additional ancillary matters.
