The next time we post about the new high school in Beaverton, Oregon, it will be to show just how beautiful the project is, but today we will be posting about how beautiful the steel used in creating the SidePlate connections looks. Fabricated at Fought & Company Inc. the steel was treated to some time in the in-house shot blaster to finish it to an SP6 surface getting it ready for REFA Erection Inc. to start the construction. The Beaverton School District worked with EOR KPFF Consulting Engineers and GC Skanska to get the plans together. Interestingly, one of the fabricators at Fought lives near the construction site and passes it daily and plans to watch the steel he helped create get turned into a brand new school. How cool is that?

Building a hospital in California is quite complex. The rules established by HCAI are stringent—for good reason. California is a seismic zone and people will always be in a hospital—so KPFF Consulting Engineers the EOR on the Hoag Hospital, East Pavilion in Irvine, CA chose SidePlate Plus connections to ensure safety. Team members from Schuff Steel who fabricated and erected the project, McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. who was the General Contractor, KPFF and, of course, SidePlate got together to celebrate the topping out of the 86,000 sq ft project.

A few years back we had quite a bit to say about our participation in the construction of the Charles R. Jones Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Charlotte, NC. We knew it was going to be a special project and a number of site visits took place during construction and, of course, a visit when it was complete because who doesn't like a stop in Charlotte? Well, it turns out the project really is special as it was just awarded the General Services Administration (GSA) Construction Excellence Award, and it won Project of the Year, Honor in Capital Projects and, finally, Merit In Craftsmanship! Be sure you add it to your to-do list on your next visit to Charlotte.

The new Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma, WA. is almost ready. Standing five-stories tall with 275,000 sq ft of space the new facility features SidePlate Plus connections throughout. With engineering done by Structural Design Group and fabrication and erection done by Schuff Steel , the structure went up quickly and the SidePlate Team was excited to be part of such an important project.

The 2024 NASCC Steel Show was an exciting week for the SidePlate team. It started with our own Matthew Brady marking his five-year anniversary with us, commemorated in a plaque presented by Matt Mester, S.E., P.E. . Our booth was highlighted by a SidePlate Connection built by Basden Steel Corporation painted to match the opening video on our website, and, of course, the great SidePlate team!

La Jolla, California is a hot bed of medical and lab space. One Alexandria Square, a new, three-building, 280,000 sq ft in total project we had a chance to be part of topped out recently. Working with some of our favorite partners like DPR Construction Construction, Coffman Engineers , NBBJ Design and of course, SME Steel , the project went together smoothly. We look forward to seeing the finished project, but hate seeing the SidePlate Connections get covered up!
