Shit Pitch

Venture Capital and Private Equity Principals

Helping investors connect with the best entrepreneurs!

About us

Disruptive networking events, designed to connect Entrepreneurs with Investors, by showcasing their marketing, adaptability, and communication skills. --- Hear from CEOs at the seed-stage, BUT with a huge twist! They'll present more than just their normal business pitch... Each of the five will have 5mins to present a bad business idea to the audience, in an effort to convince us that it could actually work. The ideas are randomly selected for the participants and are often completely ridiculous. This isn't just for laughs, but no reason we can't have fun as we talk business. The intent is to give entrepreneurs a way to step out from behind their personal startups, as they show the group of investors their adaptability, marketing skills, and salesmanship!

HAHAHAHA have you stumbled on something like this before? People create some amazing things! This song has some of the founders hoping to get their name called up on stage this Thursday at Shit Pitch. Don't listen to the whole thing but if you're feeling a little 90's angst then it's really not that bad. Especially the chorus! The Fiona Hayes part is too good. I personally added the "yada yada yada" and it just strikes a chord ha Here is the lineup for the SLC event this Thursday: Morgan Williams, M.Ed., MBC w/Blendyd Studios **Anti-Pitch Tyler Slater at Nonsense **Shitpitch 💩 PLUS... ONE lucky founders from this list will be randomly selected to pitch! Adam Smith -- Observable Universe Inc. Bryant Solomon -- ControlQore Charles Henderson -- i3pminc/iPPT Curtis H. Wolthuis -- WindIQ Fiona Hayes -- ViewPoint Simulations | Simulated Experiences. Real World Learning. Lihong Hicken -- TheySaid | World's 1st AI Survey Matthew Winget -- Fomo Collabs Michael J. Nixon -- Markade Michael Proper -- ClearCellular Mitch Jorgensen -- DreamRingLabs Princess Bombyck -- Juah Apparel Exercise Clothing Company Spencer Taylor -- RaiseBerry Taylor Stull -- Flowell Victor Houston -- FYT

I get it. Founders are desperate for investors to look at them... 😡 BUT simmer it down! Haha No need to swarm them at an event It's a lot like dating. You get to know each other a little here and a little there. 😍 Curious about who's had the worst date now that I related it to that. Who's got one? Back to the real topic though through this analogy... Before even going on a date. Say you notice a hottie across the room and make a move to instigate a conversation. 🙌 First off, way to go! You just did something amazing by taking a step into the unknown! Now take note... If someone is talking to them and they both seem engaged, don't interrupt! If it's an open circle, jump in! As you're waiting for your turn, notice the person who is chatting with them. If it feels like it will be a minute, go chat with someone else. WHAAAAAAA?!!! You heard me. Chat with someone else. Don't linger like they're your chance at something going right that day. See what you can do for someone else in the room or benefit from. Keep the good things rolling! If you notice that they are free and you have a chance to approach them, then go for it. I'd ask you to do one thing... 📣 DON'T PITCH THEM 📣 I know you want to but DON'T! Be a human and treat the investors like they are too. Talk to them about the event or what they are working on that's exciting this month. Be personable and PATIENT. Odds are that if you're both having a good time, they will ask you what you're working on. And help them understand the idea and ask, briefly. Keep it to 30 seconds. Something short that will make the conversation continue and the investor will want to ask more questions or politely leave to chat with someone else. I've never seen an investor make a deal in that very moment outside of #sharktank And there you go, you are now off to set meetings and have further conversations. **Circling back to if you DON'T get a chance to connect with them before they leave the room because you chatted with someone else or they were busy in other conversations. Here's the trick... Remember how I told you to notice the person next to the investor who was already chatting with them? Go to them and ask how the conversation was. What happened and did they get a meeting? Find out if the person can give you any insight to their convesation. This will now open the door to the "what ifs" - What if that person could make an intro? - What if that person helped you know if that investor is actively investing or not. - What if they aren't an investor? - yadda yadda yadda Next thing you know, you didn't lose out on the networking session by just waiting for the investor in the room. Did this help, founders? What are your thoughts, investors?

We all know who you are first time founders.. You can’t hide haha It’s like we have Superman’s vision and see straight through it all without even trying HOW TO GET NOTICED THE RIGHT WAY 1. Stop being so secretive about your idea You have it. An idea that will change the world! Congrats! But odds are someone else has thought of something identical or similar already. We live in a world of replication. Art is often inspired by other art. So take that idea of yours and be the one to execute. I’ve seen several founders get worried that their secret sauce or product is so unique that if you share it someone will come and take it from you. Odds are you might be the weak link in making it happen. A long lasting CEO will move mountains to make things happen. Those that wait for things loose. So be bold. Get that confidence in yourself. Patent the idea if it’s that revolutionary and get to work! 2. Be creative with others If number one is to not be secretive, then this next one is the path to making things explode! Be curious! I was lucky enough to have Morgan Williams, M.Ed., MBC do an “anti pitch” to a group of investors on why they should NOT invest in her company. It pushed her to look at all the areas that needed improvements and address them head on. She pulled in cool people to ask the hard questions and push her past the pride barrier. Getting creative with the possibilities you can refocus on the mission critical issues. Address them and move forward. 3. Get customers early that can break things If getting funding is difficult. Then, getting buying customers is daunting. It’s the piece that will make or break you! My suggestion. Craft up a way to get prospect users asap. A massive pool of people. Run your A B testing. And start with asking them the hard questions. Ultimately you’ll be asking them to buy. If you’ve asked the right questions and prepped the right audience then you “should” have those wins. **for those about to scream and yell at me, you’re right. This should be the first step. Creating an idea to sell to someone is more difficult than finding a target audience and having them tell you what they need. But we’re here now, with your idea and underway. Be prepared to fail so the next is better! Get after it first timers!
