Cracked Earth now publicly released After its incredible world tour in 2023/2024 with more than 50 screenings organised by #cycling companies and communities across 12 countries, Cracked Earth is now available to watch on our website and WaterBear Network. This 30-min documentary, produced by Shift’s founder Lian van Leeuwen, captures the lives of cyclists worldwide, living in areas where #climate change is no longer a future threat, but a daily reality. Thank you again to everyone who made the creation of this #film possible. It has served - and hopefully will keep on serving - as a great tool to spark further conversation, as we have heard back from many of you: “We had a great discussion afterwards with some follow-up items. Thank you for making something so tangible and relevant that speaks to that part of us we often try so hard to just ignore because it’s uncomfortable. This film is yet another building block of inspiration and drive as we work our way towards doing our part in changing the world.” Ryan McDonald, Specialized Bicycle Components Keen to organise a screening yourself? Today, the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) enters into force. The ESPR aims to significantly improve the environmental aspects and #circularity of products placed on the EU market. Up to around 95% of the environmental impacts of companies in the #cycling industry comes from the way we make our products and the materials we chose. In our Circular Design Course tailored to the cycling industry, we bring together product designers/engineers with marketing and sales managers to rethink one of their own products in line with the circular economy. The next course runs from 2 Oct – 6 Nov and we still have a few open seats. Keen to learn more about this program and how it can help you to build a compelling business model around product #sustainability? Check out the course details here 👉 https://lnkd.in/e27mqsb8 or get in touch with us. Read more about the Ecodesign Regulation here: https://lnkd.in/gVkyJpJx

The increased number of #eBikes and electric cars as part of the transition to a more sustainable mobility, comes with an increased demand for #minerals, such as cobalt, lithium and manganese, which are essential ingredients for the batteries. The extraction of these minerals is often linked to human rights violations and environmental damage, both of which disproportionately affect women. While several initiatives in the e-bike industry exist to promote #sustainability throughout the supply chain, social impacts are often overlooked. ActionAid Nederland and Shift Cycling Culture have teamed up to organize a roundtable discussion with various stakeholders in the bicycle industry to discuss a path towards a sustainable e-bike industry and responsible mineral supply chains. The event will take place on 9 July 2024 at 13:00 at Shimano Europe Group, Eindhoven, The Netherlands. If you are interested to join this conversation RSVP before June 25 by sending an email to [email protected]. There are limited spots available. You can read more about the event here: 👉 https://lnkd.in/gG7gg3D7 #climateaction #circulareconomy #naturepositive #sustainablesupplychains
