About us

The Mission of the Shakespeare Theatre Company and the Harman Center for the Arts Since its founding in 1985, the Shakespeare Theatre Company has endeavored to be the nation’s leading force in the presentation and preservation of classic theatre. Our core mission is to present classic theatre in an accessible, skillful, imaginative, American style that honors playwrights’ language and intentions while viewing their plays through a 21st-century lens. With the formation of the Harman Center for the Arts—which includes the new Sidney Harman Hall and the existing Lansburgh Theatre—the Shakespeare Theatre Company is a national destination theatre offering a broad range of works to audiences in the greater-Washington area and across the nation. The Harman Center for the Arts provides state-of-the-art, affordable, midsized venues to outstanding local, national and international performing arts companies. The Harman Center for the Arts encourages synergy among sister arts organizations and stimulates an ongoing artistic dialogue that embraces all of the performing arts, while affording the Shakespeare Theatre Company the opportunity to expand its education and accessibility programs and engage diverse audiences in the arts.

Resident Casting Director at Shakespeare Theatre Company

For the first time ever, Shakespeare Theatre Company will be bringing on a DMV-based college apprentice in the Casting department! STC Learning and I have collaborated to get this inaugural apprenticeship up and running for the 24-25 season. I am a huge proponent of arts education and supporting the inheritors of our theatre industry, so I’m excited to do my part and build out this program with someone brilliant. This is an exciting opportunity for creative minded emerging artists to get a taste of what it’s like to work at a regional theatre, connect with the acting community and learn all about the wonderful world of casting. This apprentice will get one-on-one training sessions with me, where I’ll share my casting knowledge and my experience in artistic leadership. The casting apprentice will get many experiential learning opportunities, help with auditions and get to meet a lot of amazing artists along the way. So folks, please share this with your communities! Let’s get this opportunity in young people’s feeds. Applications close September 6th.
