The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a regional government agency based in West Palm Beach, Fla. The agency's core mission is to manage and protect water resources in 16 counties from Orlando to the Florida Keys by balancing and improving flood control, water quality, natural systems and water supply. It is the oldest and largest of the state's five water management districts. The SFWMD manages and protects water resources on behalf of over 9.2 million South Floridians, and is the lead agency in restoring America's Everglades – the largest environmental project in the nation's history.

👏 Today, we celebrate the three-year anniversary of the #KissimmeeRiver Restoration Project! The formerly channeled Kissimmee River was restored back to a meandering river, making it one of the largest successful restoration projects in history. Thank you to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, U.S. Department of the Interior and the many other partners and stakeholders who helped bring this project to life.

This water storage and water quality project in Southwest Florida stores excess water from the local watershed to help support the balance of fresh and salt water in the Caloosahatchee Estuary.
