Sam is a Home-Delivered Groceries (HDG) driver and a long-time volunteer at our Illinois warehouse. He's delivered over 130,000 pounds of food and volunteered more than 700 hours to help 75 households weekly. "Food is a way for people to show how much they care about people, without knowing how to say it or show it otherwise. I feel like you can solve a lot of problems with food," shared Sam. Not only does he deliver groceries, but he also offers free haircuts to the participants on his delivery route. Sam's inspiring message is simple: kindness is strength. What does “strengthen and protect the Farm Bill” mean, exactly? However, the US House Agriculture Committee has proposed devastating cuts to SNAP/CalFresh in the upcoming Farm Bill. With data showing that over 1 in 5 Californians face food insecurity and that we now spend more than 2x on food than we did before the pandemic, we must have strong safety nets for our communities facing food insecurity.
