Meet Lumi's founder: Colin Kaepernick You may already know him as the quarterback for the 49ers, leading the team to their first Super Bowl since 1994. What you may *not* know is that he is also a visionary founder with a passion for both justice storytelling. In 2016, Colin and his partner founded the nonprofit Know Your Rights Camp. The organization is dedicated to providing free seminars for disadvantaged youths in order to educate them on American history & their legal rights. They now have camps in 12 cities nationwide ❤️ From there, he went onto found Kaepernick Publishing with the mission of elevating diverse views and voices on the topic of building a more equitable world. He also published a children's book based on his own youth in partnership with (!!) Scholastic 📖 In 2021, he co-created a six-episode television show for Netflix with the acclaimed filmmaker Ava DuVernay. The story explores Colin's teenager years and the experiences that lead him to become such a powerful activist 💪 Colin has also won a *ton* of important awards, thanks to his decades of dedication to making the world a better place. Some of them include Harvard University's W.E.B. DuBois Medal and the Amnesty International Ambassador of Conscious Award 🏅 In addition to founding initiatives, winning awards, and building media empires, Colin *also* made a Million Dollar Pledge to support orgs working in oppressed communities. In 2018, he gave out the final $100K in $10K increments while securing matching donations for each 🫂 Everything he's built, done, founded, and funded has one, important and overarching goal: Changing *who* gets to tell stories, and *how* we do it, in order to imagine a brighter and more just future. Lunar resource startup Interlune just scored a grant from @NASA to test their soil processing technology 🚀 They're hoping to harvest a valuable gas called helium-3 from the moon's surface and bring it back to Earth within the decade 🌕 Interlune's co-founder and CEO Rob Meyerson says that helium-3 is the only gas that's worth the cost of trekking to the moon. At about $20M/kg, it's hard to argue with that. The grant money will be used to test equipment that will prep lunar soil for helium-3 extraction, a vital part of their harvesting process.
