The Network was thrilled to join the Office of Mayor-Elect Eric Adams and NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development today to celebrate the announcement of record numbers for #supportivehousing units developed and preserved in a single year, at Services for the UnderServed's new affordable & supportive residence, Melrose North. Network Board Chair and Breaking Ground (NYC Permanent Supportive Housing) President and CEO Brenda Rosen, provided remarks, "We are thrilled to celebrate a great milestone for New York City with an historic number of supportive housing apartments – over 2,100 – the most on-record in a single year produced for our City's most vulnerable." The Network released the following statement in response to this announcement: Today’s historic announcement of a record number of supportive housing units developed and preserved in a single year reaffirms New York’s leadership in the effort to end chronic homelessness. For over 40 years, New York has pioneered the model of combining affordable, quality housing with voluntary services. We applaud the City’s ongoing commitment to the most effective means of helping our most vulnerable neighbors live with dignity. This year alone, the City created a record 1,500 new homes and preserved an additional 649. The administration clearly understands that the only way to truly end chronic homelessness is by creating and preserving more supportive housing. This is incredible progress and an important step in the right direction, but we are still far from meeting the ever-growing need as our city continues to combat crises on multiple fronts – from housing affordability to mental health to increasingly deadly opioids. It's more important than ever that we maximize our limited resources to ensure we are developing the kind of housing, and providing the kind of services, that vulnerable New Yorkers require to succeed. At this point, the allocation of congregate units under the original NYC 15/15 is almost complete, while less than 20 percent of planned scattered site units are operational. The Network stands ready to work with the administration on a reallocation plan to create additional congregate units under NYC 15/15 and to preserve our essential existing stock to maintain – and surpass – this year’s remarkable achievements.

In partnership with Bronx Pro Group, LLC, we broke ground on Starhill Phase II on July 16. The Starhill redevelopment project shows what is possible when we all work together to help New Yorkers find homes. With an anticipated completion date of December 2026, Starhill will be a place where people will be able to heal and stabilize their lives.

"Don't let the fear stop you. Achieve early. A lot of people in the able-bodied world will tell you to wait ... Most of the time, I think it's because they're afraid that if something doesn't go right for you, you will fall apart. I say to you, do things early." -Michael Rogers, a prominent self-advocate in Buffalo and Regional Organizer for the Self Advocacy Association of New York State https://buff.ly/46cc1t3

Let’s celebrate the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 34th Anniversary! The ADA works to ensure all people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. Services for the UnderServed #ADA34 #ThanksToTheADA

S:US is proud to support the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 34th Anniversary. On July 26, we celebrate this important civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in all areas of life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. We honor and celebrate the diversity of people with disabilities – those with physical, intellectual/developmental disabilities, people with mental illness, and those with undiagnosed disabilities. We are dedicated to helping people lead their best lives by creating opportunities for meaningful relationships, full integration into the community, and personal growth. Let's commemorate the ADA by continuing to advocate for a world where everyone, regardless of ability, can thrive and participate fully in society. Together, we can build a future that is inclusive, accessible, and supportive for all. #ADA34 #ThanksToTheADA

From building affordable and supportive housing for people who have been homeless, including veterans, to healthy food distribution programs in underserved communities, to health clinics serving people with mental health and substance challenges -- none of it would be possible without the support of our funders and generous donors, which now includes S:UStainers. Please join the growing group of S:UStainers by making a gift of $1 a day, or a recurring donation of any amount. Together, let's build a brighter future for New Yorkers in need.
