Around 7.3 million disabled students are enrolled in public K-12 schools in the country. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), students with disabilities are guaranteed the right to free public education with appropriate special education services. I’m thrilled to announce my selection to the EdResearch Advisory Board, a joint initiative between EdResearch for Action with Annenberg Foundation at Brown University and Transcend to elevate educator voices in shaping research insights for real-world impact! As educators, we understand the pivotal role we play every day in shaping education. That's why I'm honored to embark on this year-long journey alongside fellow school and district leaders, as we collaborate directly with the EdResearch team and leading education researchers to ensure the usefulness and relevance of their research synthesis briefs. These briefs are designed to provide evidence-based guidance for K-12 decision makers and advocates so that we can meet the diverse needs of our students. I'm delighted to be part of this participatory approach that empowers educators to influence and refine meaning-making of research - and also bring learnings back to our partners at SELF - Special Education Leader Fellowship. Having just finished facilitating a session with our INCREDIBLE District Leader Fellows in Los Angeles, I’m sitting in SO MUCH gratitude. ❤️ The leaders in the space are powerful beyond measure - they are leading their CMOs with such a force - as they drive change for EVERY SINGLE LEARNER. I’m so thankful to learn from the brilliance, vulnerability, skill, strength, love, and boldness of the individuals and the collective community. SELF is finalizing our next cohort of Leader Fellows! With support from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, SELF’s Leadership program was evaluated by McREL International. Researchers found that SELF positively impacts participant retention in schools, particularly for educators of color.
