Registration open now for the 4D Forum – Insight to Action: A global forum on creating value, reducing cycle time and optimizing production and injection in a digital world! Keynote speakers are: Tonya Richardson of Chevron New Energies, Per Gunnar Folstad of CONOCO PHILIPS Norway, and Michael B. Helgerud of ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering (EMTech). We are particularly interested in case studies from operators of worldwide #4D projects. What insights in reservoir behavior, overburden effects, or subsurface #geomechanics were gained with 4D methods and how were those insights acted on. We would like to balance contributions from well-known industry projects with those from emerging fields and basins that have not been heavily published. Register: https://go.seg.org/3SiiRIu

In this heartfelt #Seismic Soundoff podcast, we honor the legacy of Sven Treitel, a beloved figure in #geophysics and at #SEG. Kurt Marfurt and Sam Gray join host Andrew Geary to reflect on Sven's profound impact on their work and the field. Listeners will gain a deep appreciation for Sven's lasting contributions to geophysics and his ability to bridge the gap between research and practical application. This episode is a tribute to a geophysical giant whose influence will be felt for generations. Much of the #seismic #data #analysis has been carried out using methods based on the #physics of #wave propagation and some #signal processing principles. These methods are generally termed ‘physics-based’ or ‘model- based’ approaches. The entire suite of seismic processing and inversion algorithms starting from stacking velocity analysis to full waveform inversion is developed on these principles. Recently, a flurry of data-driven models that are agnostic to the physics has been developed for application to some previously solved and unsolved problems. Data driven approaches are methods for understanding the mechanisms generally by identifying patterns in large volumes of data. Thus, it may appear that we are at cross-roads to decide on the applicability and usefulness of the two seemingly different approaches. Even a broader question is “do we need to choose between the two?” First stop of the 2024-2025 short course will be in-person at #IMAGE24 in Houston. Distinguished Instructor: @Mrinal Sen of The University of Texas at Austin. Register: https://go.seg.org/3z7hh4B
