Last night, we drank tea and talked about the vaginal microbiome. In collaboration with our friend Erica Chidi (Co-Founder and CEO of LOOM), we communed with a group of superorganisms—doulas, clinicians, OB/GYNs, and more—to speak about the revolutionary field of the vaginal microbiome, our latest research, real life experiences of dysbiosis, and the clinical possibilities of VS-01™ (our first innovation for vaginal health). A big thank you to all who made this evening magical:  • Our Co-Founder and Co-CEO Ara Katz, Chief Medical Officer Zain Kassam MD, MPH, and Erica Chidi for leading an open and inspiring conversation  • Tea at Shiloh for sharing their space and providing a beautiful tea service • Camila Casanas for nourishing our microbiomes with a stunning spread  • Our team Mimi Nguyen and Kathryn LaBarbera for capturing the evening  • Our Director of Storytelling Travis Spier and Executive Creative Producer Kelley King for bringing everything to life If you, or someone in your ecosystem, is in the reproductive, gynecological, or urogenital space and would like information on our practitioner program or an invite to our next gathering, kindly email us—[email protected] 🌱

Out today and on the cover of Nature Portfolio—the latest research on the ‘Second Space Age’ from Dr. Christopher Mason, co-authored by Seed co-Founder Raja Dhir. Dr. Mason, Professor of Physiology and Biophysics at Weill-Cornell Medicine and Seed Scientific Board Member, has worked on many mind-blowing, future-forward pieces of research on our species survival and continued exploration beyond Earth (including creating a 500-year plan for human survival with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration). In three simultaneous papers in Nature, Dr. Mason details the new results from the Space Omics and Medical Atlas (SOMA). The first, “A second space age spanning omics, platforms and medicine across orbits”—looks at the rapidly advancing landscape of spaceflight and the biological needs in order to push past ‘low Earth orbit’ for lunar and Martian missions known as the ‘Second Space Age’. This era has ushered in a new opportunity to leverage tools and methods for understanding human and microbial responses to spaceflight and to unlock how, from a cellular level, we can venture out towards other planets and moons. The journal also features two other papers led by Dr. Mason, “Molecular and physiological changes in the SpaceX Inspiration4 civilian crew,” and The Space Omics and Medical Atlas (SOMA) and international astronaut biobank.” Cover design by the team Seed Health in collaboration with artist and designer NIK Schulte and Manuel Carvahlo.

When we say “for your world within,” we mean it in every sense of the phrase—thinking in ecologies applies to every single thing we do. While we focus on creating innovations for the microbiome, we also apply this ecological mindset to our internal ecosystem of team members—our Seed-verse. Every August and December we take a collective week-long pause to rest and recharge. This time away from our screens offers fresh perspective, renewed energy, and improved well-being.  As a Recharge tradition, our team of designers, art directors, and brand storytellers create merch for the team to inspire time away from work. This year’s edition included a beach tote made in collaboration with our industrial design partner NUOVA Group, a Digestif hat, and some of our favorite sunscreen, courtesy of our friends at Freaks of Nature. Should you be viewing this post and thinking, “I’d love to join this team,” we’re hiring. seed.com/join-us 😉 • 📸: Photo taken by one of our stellar Project Managers, Emma Castiglione.

For far too long, women's health has been sidelined, and innovation has lagged. But there’s a powerful shift happening, led by groundbreaking research into the invisible world of microbes. The vaginal microbiome—a vital ecosystem for gynecological, urogenital, and reproductive health—holds the potential to transform our understanding and treatment of women’s health issues. Imagine a future where bacteria improve sexual health, reduce STI risks, and enhance fertility outcomes. Could these tiny organisms offer us greater autonomy over our bodies, especially as our rights face increasing challenges? Curious to learn more? Vote for our SXSW panel “The Future of Women’s Health is Invisible” featuring our Co-Founder and Co-CEO Ara Katz, Actress and Activist Sophia Bush, Microbiome Science Pioneer Jacques Ravel, and Entrepreneur and Author Erica Chidi Cohen. Hello from #IDSOG, the annual meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology. 👋 This week, our R&D team, represented by Sheri Simmons and Zain Kassam MD, MPH, unveiled groundbreaking findings from a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial on our VS-01™ Vaginal Synbiotic. This pivotal study is the first to demonstrate that a multi-strain vaginal synbiotic can establish a protective vaginal environment by optimizing the vaginal microbiome.¹ These findings underscore the transformative potential of proactive, preventive care centered on the vaginal microbiome, shifting the focus from traditional symptom management to maintaining a balanced and resilient vaginal ecosystem. Since our inception, we have been committed to rigorous scientific research to deliver evidence-based, therapeutic-level innovations in consumer health. Presenting our findings at IDSOG highlights this dedication. We are immensely proud of our team and grateful for the opportunity to engage with clinicians and researchers to advance women’s health. • ¹ Ravel, J., Jaswa, E. At this year’s Digestive Disease Week® (DDW), we presented new clinical data from two randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials with our flagship innovation, DS-01® Daily Synbiotic. One trial assessed the recovery effects of DS-01® on individuals during and following antibiotic usage, and the other evaluated DS-01® in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). So far, the data from these studies is promising, with findings that underscore our mission to transform breakthrough microbiome science into meaningful health impact. As Zain Kassam MD, MPH, our Chief Medical Officer¹, puts it: "DS-01® was formulated to maximize genomic diversity and set an entirely new standard in probiotics. Our latest clinical data expands DS-01®'s potential health impact, broadens its clinical use cases, and helps dispel the common perception in the medical community that all probiotics are created equal." Kudos to Zain and Brooke Ann Napier for representing Seed at DDW, and the rest of our R D team, including Dirk Gevers and Sheri Simmons, for contributing to these foundational studies. And thank you for having us, DDW. We’re grateful for the opportunity to gather alongside the world’s leading gastroenterology clinicians, researchers, and industry experts to exchange ideas and research that will advance the field. • ¹ Last month, Zain Kassam officially joined Seed Health as Chief Medical Officer to lead our clinical research and medical affairs. An award-winning physician-scientist, Zain has played a pivotal role in the advancement of microbiome science for over a decade. He co-founded and was Chief Medical Officer at two of the most foundational microbiome therapeutics companies, OpenBiome and Finch Therapeutics, and his extensive body of work includes over 200 peer-reviewed publications and abstracts. He has also championed more than 30 Phase I-III clinical trials with top-tier academic institutions across multiple therapeutic areas. When new team members join Seed, they’re asked to share a six-word story of themselves. Zain said, “Science for everyday health at scale”. We couldn’t agree more. Welcome, Zain.
