  • On May 21, 2024, Neil Sikes went into cardiac arrest at his home. First responders arrived to find him without a pulse and not breathing. They began CPR and worked non-stop for 50 minutes to revive him. Once he regained a pulse and was stabilized, he was transported to the hospital and has since made a full recovery! In honor of this life-saving event, Sedgwick County EMS held a cardiac arrest survivor meet and greet where the crews from Sedgwick County EMS and Wichita Fire Department had the honor to meet Neil and his family. We are grateful that Neil allowed us to come together and celebrate his second chance at life.

  • Exciting news! Sedgwick County’s Project SEARCH – a workforce development program for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities- recently won an award at its annual conference for Project Search teams from around the world. They were recognized for reaching 100% job placement for its interns after graduation last year! They not only met but exceeded their goal of 70% of its interns finding competitive, integrated employment for 16 or more hours per week, paid at the prevailing wage. Congratulations to the Project SEARCH team leaders: Instructor Chris Nichols, Skills Trainer Natalie Bush (not pictured), and Employment Specialist Haley Anderson from Kansas Vocational Rehabilitation. #ProjectSEARCH #SedgwickCounty

  • Today, commissioners joined the celebrations for the first five fellows of the KU School of Medicine-Wichita Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program. This new two-year program is not just about training exceptional psychiatrists, but about shaping compassionate healers who will revolutionize the way we approach mental health care for the children and families in Kansas. We expect great things from these individuals!
