MISSION STATEMENT Through information-sharing, training and consultation, the Secure Community Network empowers individuals and organizations to establish a standardized culture of awareness, preparedness and resiliency, increasing the safety and security of Jewish communities throughout North America. PURPOSE As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, SCN works to ensure the security of the Jewish people, our institutions, communities, and interests across North America. SCN IS ABOUT SECURING OUR COMMUNITY Since 2004, SCN has been at the forefront of an innovative, collaborative and cooperative national homeland security initiative educating the Jewish community to potential threats, leveraging government and private sector resources to better protect and secure our community, and ensuring that the security concerns of our community continues to remain a top focus of the intelligence, homeland security and law enforcement agencies charged with safeguarding our country and communities from the risks and threats that are present in today’s world.

Yesterday evening, we were proud to partner with The Jewish Federation & Foundation of Northeast Florida & HBO for the first in a series of screenings of “A Tree of Life” — a documentary about the 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue shooting. Mayor Donna Deegan kicked off the screening in front of an audience of nearly 200, followed by a panel discussion involving Jacksonville Jewish community members, media, and Pittsburgh shooting survivor Audrey Glickman.

SCN is proud to welcome former NYPD Chief of Department Kenneth Corey to the team as a Strategic Advisor. There are few leaders in law enforcement who are more respected or whose advice is more valued than Chief Corey. His experience and expertise – in the NYPD and more broadly – are unmatched and marry a strategic and tactical perspective that can only come with the type of operational experience that so exemplifies Ken’s work in law enforcement — a body of work which has earned him great respect. We look forward to working with Ken to advance the model which SCN has developed with public safety experts and law enforcement professionals, and which we both believe is best positioned to ensure the safety and security of the Jewish community.
NYPD Chief of Department - Retired; Director of Outreach and Engagement, Policing Leadership Academy
One year ago today I took off my NYPD uniform for the last time, and what a year it’s been! People ask me all the time “How’s retirement?” or “Are you working?” or “What are you doing these days?” So let me share the past year’s adventures. I am truly fortunate to have spent the last year with the incredible team at the University of Chicago Crime Lab working on the Policing Leadership Academy, helping to educate and develop rising leaders from across the country and a few international cities as well. I’m also a Strategic Advisor to the Secure Community Network, helping to protect Jewish institutions all over the U.S. In addition, I am the Chair of the Coalition for Emergency Response and Critical Infrastructure (CERCI) looking to protect local control of the vital 4.9 GHz spectrum used by public-safety organizations across the country, and I volunteer as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Richmond University Medical Center. Despite all of that, I enjoy a lot more time with my family, managed to spend a few days at the beach, and get some more golfing in with the new clubs I bought as a “retirement” gift to myself. Retired? Not exactly. But lest you think that’s the end of the story, stay tuned – there’s even more in store for ’24! Meanwhile, stay safe and keep the faith.

This past week, CNN's Dana Bash joined SCN National Director & CEO Michael Masters at our HQ. SCN logged a record number of incident reports in October alone. There is no question that violent antisemitic incidents are going up, and that the Hamas terror attacks on 07 October opened the floodgates. Our 24/7 Jewish Security Operations Command Center (JSOCC) is working around the clock to monitor events, track incidents, gather intelligence, share information, and respond to events in real time to keep the Jewish community across North America safe and secure.

Hamas has launched an aggressive assault on Israel in the last hours. SCN is coordinating with law enforcement & key partners. At this time, there are no known credible threats to the U.S. Jewish community. SCN recommends Jewish facilities review & enforce security protocols, & maintain coordination with law enforcement. SCN will continue working with partners in intelligence & law enforcement to keep you update on this rapidly developing threat landscape.

Thanks to diligence and coordination by U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Peruvian government, a bomb threat perpetrator is in custody — a relief to the Jewish community.
