Founded in 2009 with an initial investment of $250k, the Redhawk fund is an opportunity for Seattle University students to actively manage a portion of the University’s endowment. In twelve years the fund has grown to over $1.3 million dollars with the hard work of fellow students, the guidance of our faculty advisor and advisory board, and the insight from previous alumni from within the fund.
Each analyst is assigned to a specific business sector. Every week the Redhawk Fund has a meeting where we discuss business news and economic events and how it affects the fund. A member of the fund then presents a valuation on a company followed by a question-and-answer session with fund members. Our faculty advisor reviews the valuation and if everything looks appropriate, fund members vote on whether to buy the stock or not.
At the Redhawk Fund, we compare our results against the S&P 500 Fossil Fuel Free Index. Socially responsible investing is a critical component of our investment plan. We do not hedge our investments with derivatives and focus our efforts entirely on identifying undervalued publicly traded companies. This focus allows our analysts to practice the essence of equity valuation, identifying stocks, and building long-term value in our portfolio.
In our recruitment process, we do not require previous experience in valuation or finance. The Redhawk Fund will provide the training and resources to succeed. However, we do require self-motivated candidates with an interest in business valuation and finance. Our analysts follow the news, participate in weekly meetings, and present at least one valuation per quarter.
The Redhawk Fund provides students with real-world valuation experience and the opportunity to help grow Seattle University’s endowment. This is a tight-knit community focused on the changing financial landscape. We currently live in unprecedented times and are looking for flexible, passionate, & self-motivated students to join us!!
